Hi All. Strange question.... My husband received his green card a couple of weeks ago. Today, he got a phone call on our home phone. The caller said she was calling from the Senator's office and talked very fast. My husband speaks english very well but is still trying to learn accents. He told the woman he did not understand her and that I was not home. She said that was okay, she was looking for him. While he could not understand everything she said, she was talking about immigration, she then said she was tranferring him to the Senator. He then spoke with a man, who when he told him he did not understand him, the man said thank you very much and hung up. When I got home tonight, I checked the caller ID - the call was from San Ramon, CA - we are in NY. I called the number and was advised that it is a non-working number.

My question to you all who have completed AOS, green card in hand - did you receive a phone call like this regarding immigration. Should I be concerned that this might be some kind of scam? My mind is racing.... could this just be a confirmation call that a) he lives at the address and phone we put in the applications, b) that he received his green card, c) that he is misunderstanding the people he spoke with; or, any other combination of scenarios.

Please advise. Thank you all my Visa Journey friends!!!:help:

Sure, State or US Senators have nothing better to do then calling immigrant households unannounced. The other day a buddy of mine got a call from George W. Bush personally, asking him for his social security number. Since Bush is a former President, I think it was okay for him to reveal that, and his bank account and PIN too. Right?

There is no room in this country for hyphenated Americanism. When I refer to hyphenated Americans, I do not refer to naturalized Americans. Some of the very best Americans I have ever known were naturalized Americans, Americans born abroad. But a hyphenated American is not an American at all . . . . The one absolutely certain way of bringing this nation to ruin, of preventing all possibility of its continuing to be a nation at all, would be to permit it to become a tangle of squabbling nationalities, an intricate knot of German-Americans, Irish-Americans, English-Americans, French-Americans, Scandinavian-Americans or Italian-Americans, each preserving its separate nationality, each at heart feeling more sympathy with Europeans of that nationality, than with the other citizens of the American Republic . . . . There is no such thing as a hyphenated American who is a good American. The only man who is a good American is the man who is an American and nothing else.

Thanks, but that is the weird part. They did not, at least to his knowledge, ask for anything more personal than his first name.

I got the same phone call! Although I spoke to a nice young gentleman desperate to read through his little script.... he wanted to talk to my husband and to put him through to my local Senator, to rally support for some immigration bill, to get illegals forced to be documented etc because they cost millions of dollars etc, steal jobs etc, yadda yadda. I laughed and told them to call back then put the phone down. I don't think its a scam as such, I think its because the Senators office can't/won't take any notice of people not living in the State. They are probably just going off of a list of voters/mailing list information etc, and calling blindly.

Thanks. This makes us feel a lot better. However, why would they try to ask someone who is only a resident without the right to vote on any issue? He asked them to call back when I was home. You would think they would want to speak to the USC

Oh no idea then! I never thought about that cos my husband is the USC haha. That is weird though. I did some googling:

http://whocalled.us/lookup/9253649919

They are seemingly going off a mailing list and have plonked it into an autodialler and it is probably just a coincidence
