Hello All, (Hm, my first post didn't, well, post.) I'm new here. At Captain Martyshk's suggestion, I'm just graduating out of the 'December Filers' forum. Seems like a tough group. Be gentle!

I was laughing at the "speak 'Mer'can" comments. My production manager is from Southampton England and married to a Yank. Sometimes he gets going in his accent and I look at him and say, 'dammit Mark, can't you just speak English?!'

He doesn't think it's as funny as I do.

It's only been brutal lately. Used to be more about having structured debates.

Fortunately when it comes to having your questions answered, you'll find sensible people are the ones to respond and almost always have a very good solution for you.

Coming from a one year Rookie, you're presumptuous to act like a long-term expert here in characterizing the forum. This forum has always been brutal. Diversity of thought is only unwelcome by the sheep-like posters who all "baaahh" to the same tune.

And what the hell is a "structured debate?"

Shaun of the dead does rock. wink.gif

And on the "speak English" comment... I've got a f'n redneck idiot in my office who made a bright comment during one of our company lucheons concerning some immigrant conversation he was in, "You're in America now, speak American!". After which I looked over to my Belguim immigrant engineer and said, "Yeah Tom, can't you speak American!?" And then to the Filipino immigrant drafter I was sitting next to, "Damnit Eddie, don't you understand American?!". That's our office joke now.

Too funny! I work with three therapists from the phillipines and 1 therapist from Croatia, but everyone else is a redneck :-) I live in Richmond where everyone has a pickup and a gun rack...and don't forget the confederate flag flown proudly! My co-workers know about Irina and this whole waiting game for the Visa and they know she is from Russia. I get more stupid questions than you would hear at the DMV; "Does she have indoor plumbing?" C'mon, are you serious??!! That one is my favorite! Here's another one, "Does she see a lot of bears?" ???!!! I just tell them that she walks once per day to the center of the city where the bears like to gather because she likes to feed them bread crumbs and watch them play with the children. Amazing!

Who made Marty a Cap'n? Just so you know, I am the King of the Land of Poo, Brad is the Marshal of the Grand Army of the Land of Poo (for his brilliant plan to get the Canadians to conquer Iran, Mox is the referee and tries to make new rules as we go along (he can't be in the army on account that he is skeered of loaded and cocked guns) Visa Veteran is our counter-intelligence guy, he will counter anything intelligent. Slim is, well...Slim. He is our RUB mascot and resident expert on defective RUBer wives. During the cold war he was a spy but succumbed to the Russkie honey pots...who wouldn't? Oh, yeah, and Marty has been promoted to Cap'n of Crimea!

welcome. stand your gun in the corner, pull up a piece of pie and enjoy

The whole "Captain Martyshk" started as a joke in a December filers thread in progress forums, but it has since taken on a life of its own.
