Length of stay on passport

I'm about to go to the Philippines for about two weeks to see my fiancee.

Since it's only fourteen days (17 if you count the three day round trip on the plane), I should qualify to not need a visa.

However, I know the Philippines wants me to have a passport that is valid for at least six months after I plan to leave.

When I'm applying for a passport, how long should I put down for my length of stay?

Can I put down "2-3 weeks," and I should be fine?

Or, do I need to add six months to that, and put down "seven months?"

If you are applying for a new passport, US passports are good for 10 years regardless of the length of your anticipated travel. You should be good to put down the actual length of your trip.

Just put 17 days otherwise if you put 2-3 they may be asking you a visa since US citizens are allowed only 21 days (i think) stay in the PHILIPPINES and if you exceeded your stay you will pay immigration fees in the philippines.

Your right,

U.S. Passport must be valid 6 months beyond intended stay No visa required for stay up to 20 days (Note: Children 15 years and under, if not accompanied by one parent, must obtain a visa regardless of the length of stay. If you find that you need to stay longer then 21 days you can drop in the local BI in her province and take care of any need for a visa.

the days of stay start on your arrival (actual stamping on passport) so you're just staying for 14 days and you should be good :)

This is the correct answer, since the OP was asking about his passport application. The other answers will become relevant once the OP receives his passport, and begins to plan his trip.
