Heyy everyone! Please bare with me. >_<

I keep looking online and online, and online and I keep finding nothing which pertains to me. Mr. Wyatt already advised me but I would really appreciate some more experience from other people.

I'm still in Canada, and my husband is in the US. Basically, I was hoping to do my taxes this week but because I'm married they said they'll want to know his name, birth date...AND his INCOME. Now this bit I'm worried about, mainly because...I keep hearing stories that they'll tax me for his money too...

So basically, what tends to happen for Canadians filing Canadian taxes with an american spouse? Do they tax me for his income too?...etc

Thank you so much ahead of time.

Hi there,

I have been doing my taxes with HR Block since I've been married (8 years) with American husband and they enter his info on the system but somehow override it for tax purposes. His income does not go against mine or with mine. I go to the same person and every year when we get to the part where everything is finished and they push enter....they have to override something due to the American part to complete my taxes. I'm not sure what they do, but I could find out for you if you want. They won't take his SSN but they take his name, address (just USA not any specific address) and I think date of birth. Hope this helps but i'm sure if you go to a good tax preparer it should be fine.

This is what I told her too, but I guess she needed more peace of mind than I could provide. :P

When I was playing around with UFile in regards to my leaving Canada return

there was a section where it asks you if you want to claim the spousal amount for Canada & you would say no. It then asks a few more questions about spousal credits and you would say no as well. Then it asks for name,DOB & gross income. It didn't lower my refund or add to my taxable income by adding his gross US income but I had to put 000 000 000 for SIN #, because my husband has never had SIN only SSN.

Ditto for Quicktaxes too, but it's not as transparent as Ufile, it seems.
