It's good people know something about Brasil. It's bad that most people think only of Rio's beaches filled with girls in tiny bikinis.

Soccer, yeah!

Volleyball, yeah!

Beach Volleyball, yeah!

Carnaval, meh! (I hate Carnaval)

Caipirinha, yeah!

Pele, well yeah, he was awesome, but now with the Cup coming we must say, Ronaldinho Gaúcho, YEAH!

Soap Operas, NO WAY! (I know they get famous, but I just can't stand them. Some old ones I used to watch, but it's been at least 5 years since I even stop to watch anything on open TV appart from the news).

Well, I think of Brasil as my home, with all it's corruption problems, beautiful places, horrible favelas, high crime, lots of diversity, different cultures, the warmth of the people, really, everyone and anyone from any country always feels welcomed here, we try to speak their languages even if we really can't. My fiance loved Brasil, and he absolutely LOVED Cabo Frio and Ilha Grande, all in Rio state. He also does love Rio, and so do I. I live in the mountains close to Rio, but have also lived in Rio through college, Copacabana, near the beach, Posto 3 for those who are familiar. I loved it. Crime? yes. Favela? yes. But I was never mugged, used to arrive at 11 pm from college, by bus, and felt safe. If you know where to be and when, you're pretty safe in Rio. There's crime all over the world, really, although it can get pretty bad in Rio sometimes.

But indeed, there's so much more to Brasil than Rio. I have great memories of my vacations in Maceió (spent summers there 3 years), I have a farm in Rondonia, in the Amazon Forest, so yeah, the Amazon is also great, the wildlife is great. Also, having lived in Porto Velho as a kid, and living now only 200km from it, for those of you who've seen or heard of Mad Maria, I've rode that train, been to the station and all of that, which is part of the history of our country. I've gone 3 times to the Pantanal in Poconé, beautiful, if you have the time to go, it's really worth it, we can even touch the aligators there, and there's SO many of them. It's awesome! I've seen the Iguaçu Waterfalls, the very weird freaky market across the Amizade Bridge, and visited our great capital, Brasília, which is nothing like the rest of the country.

Anyway, Brasil is such a great country that I can't stop LOVING it despite the millions of issues we have.

I have never been there, but honestly, the 1st things that spring to mind are Brazilian waxes and soccer...go figure!
