Hello monagoz,

I filed for my parents in Senegal and the process was relatively easy. I would be shocked if it would be different for Nigeria. The process was in 2 steps. You file for the I-130 petition first (It was $355, I believe. Double check on the I-130 instructions form). Just follow the instructions from the form for filing for a mother. Any non-english docs would need to be translated.

After the I-130 is approved, you will need to follow the NVC process. The fee for the NVC process was $400 if I am not mistaken. There was also a fee of $70 for the Affidavit of Support. Your mom would not have to pay anything again at the embassy. Once the case is complete, your mom will be scheduled for an Interview in Nigeria. Parents are considered immediate relatives, so a visa is immediately available, no waiting. We did not have to submit any DNA info. The interview lasted less than 10 minutes and just very basic questions were asked.

I used some of "James' shortcuts" to speed up the NVC process: http://www.visajourney.com/wiki/index.php/...#39;s_Shortcuts. You can find the NVC process here: http://travel.state.gov/visa/immigrants/info/info_1335.html.

I would advise you to read the full instructions at the USCIS and NVC websites for alien relative petitions and immigrant visa processing. They describe the whole process clearly and you just need to follow the instructions.

Please feel free to reach out for any specific questions.

Hope this helps!

vanille
