Can anyone tell me if it is viable to apply for two visas at once in case one doesn't go through?

Say we apply for both US visa for me and UK visa for him. UK visa should come through first. If the say yes, he can come live with me and we'll wait for US visa, see if we get it. We'd much rather have US visa but if it doesn't go through we'll hhave waited a year for absolutely nothing. Saying that if UK visa is refused I'll be waiting that year in a horrible state because I''l have used up one life.

It's a more costly approach, because you have to pay both application fees, but I don't see a legal problem with it. The US doesn't care what visas the USC petitioner is applying for with other countries. I assume the UK would be the same way.

Given your earlier posts, and your not-completely-unreasonable fears of a drawn out fight or outright denial of a US visa, this might be a good way to go, if the money is no real object.

DON'T PANIC

UK one only takes a few weeks.

Trouble is you have to submit all the application at once which is mindblowingly hard for me. The US one is all split up and the first form is easy. I simply don't know what to do and there's stuff in the way of me getting either visa. I know they won;'t tsake my work seriously because my salaried job is way below poverty line and my qualifying income job is well... selling on eBay. Selling with 2K profit a month with salaried job added but i know it doesn't mean jack to them. Plus I won't have any tax returns that will show a year's work til April, because I haven't lived in the UK from 2004-2008. I heard that they want 2 years of tax returns.

I'm completely terrified of doing either. Doing both and getting a refusal on one might send me off the rails.

GBP24,000 a year plus your salaried job sounds excellent to me.

Tax time is not that far off.

Hire a clerk, to work at your house, prepping all of the paperwork. There's bound to be an agency in your town that can get the right admin temp worker for you in a timely fashion.

You can apply for both visas at once, no problem. Each government is unlikely to hear about the other visa app unless you tell them. If they do find out, you may get a few extra questions as to your intentions and seriousness in applying for a visa, but it doesn't mean you'd get denied either.
