Sounds good. I don't think the contract states anywhere anything about letting them go & what happens after.

How about at NVC since they have my attorneys info? Will I just have to fill out a DS3032 (?) form? Will that set me back more or?

Hmm good question. That would be something Id call and ask a supervisor. Do you not receive any info that the NVC sends? Does it all go the lawyer? no cc to you?

Tatyana, UGH!!! How frustrating! At least it's something you have already and can send in today. As for the lawyer, fire his a$$. Not only is he not being helpful (disregarding your wish to send in the J1 stuff with the DS-230) but he's lying to you (saying it's the birth certificate when you already know it's the J1). Sounds like he doesn't give a rat's tail about your case. Write him a letter stating your disappointment with his services, how his treatment of you and your case is unacceptable, and that he hasn't held up his end of the deal. Site specific examples. I had originally hired a lawyer to take care of the divorce from my previous husband. She didn't do anything. After 2 months and she still hadn't filed the original petition, I fired her and got 80% of the fees I had paid back. From there, my ex and I researched and filed everything ourselves. So, yes, it's possible to both fire your attorney and get your fees back. Don't give up, honey. You're on top of it. You're doing great. And you'll be done with it all soon. Hang in there; we're all here for you.

SJ, Sorry to hear about that. Is there a way they can mail the PCC to your wife? Maybe because of the unexpected circumstances, they'll be sympathetic. It can't hurt to ask, right? I hope it gets cleared up soon.

MQ, if it's a mandatory AP does that mean it's just for name checks? Have you gotten through to DOS yet?

Well, the only thing NVC has emailed me was the payment portal stull. When I called NVC to get the case number, I gave them my email too. But since then I havent received anything else from them. I am suppose to see the checklist that was emailed to me yesterday but havent got it yet.

I guess will have to call NVC before I write to the attorney.

You brough up a lot of good points. Will just have to figure out the NVC part. Thats the last thing that I want to dely my case.

see something stupid right?!?! just calmly send it in yourself - sometimes you have to take care of things yourself if you ever want something done! if you have energy, try to do it yourself. otherwise make sure your attorney does it. but at least its not somehting you cant fix. good at least you've found out! onwards to SIF!!!

I was giving an update to the Dr that I work for & he was suprised I was able to get a hold of NVC. Back when he was dealing with them he said you could not even get a through to them, there wasnt an option and also to get anything from them even if it was something simple it took 2mo if not more. Thank GOD we are out the stone age.

Our case was at uscis when I fired him, but they never took him off my records, even after he and I BOTH sent letters. When they finally finished everything with the K1 we withdrew in September, the lawyer was still getting the info from them in Jan of this year and I fired him in April 2009. So, I think removing him was hard. The paperwork was coming to me, but to him also.

Hopefully NVC is better at record-keeping. Good luck!

I had a little help. I knew a paralegal who read the contract I signed.

All we did was write a letter saying I no longer wanted his representation. My friend just looked things over for me and I basically did it.

We faxed and mailed a copy of the letter. Pretty easy!

Again, good luck. I know if I had found this site first, I never would have hired anyone to begin with!
