Sachi-> Can't believe you can't mail the packages direct to the Embassy!

I'm 99% positive the 2009 returns will be asked at the interview. Have your dad talking to him. Arghhhh I don't like your cousin right now! What does he wants to protect? When my FIL sent us the packages he made zillion recommendations saying, please protect the papers, all my info is there... bank account number, SSN, etc! Oh c'mon!!!! Is not like I'll put in the newspaper!!! Arghhhhhhhhhhhh :bonk:

I'm just wondering if this COULD be done, in case the need arises:

My FIL has agreed to step up and give me his 2009 tax returns (and other documentation) and an I864A, when he heard that my cousin was giving us trouble at this late hour.

Can I just have him replace my cousin as the joint sponsor at the interview stage?

At this point, I'm trying to keep my options open. I've about a month to figure this out.

Seriously... easter egg hunting. $hit. this is making me tired.

Im positive they will ask for the returns too and that would be a shame to have a blue slip for that. I understand the paranoia with people not wanting to give their sensitive info - but dam that! Its personal cuz its PERSONAL. I am going to be positive tho- I'm sure he will see the light. I told Sach a month or so to go, plenty PLENTY of time to grease that wheel a bit.

 So what's everyone got planned this week? Will we have another dreadful weekend to contend with??

Ok, I kinda have a dilemma now I guess. If they're going to insist that Merlaine have my '09 tax return then I need to file. I really can't file without being able to claim her though. If I do, I'll wind up owing this year. If I wait till she has her SSN then I'll get a small refund. I can have my taxes done and send the finished forms along with W-2 copies I guess?? They just wouldn't have her (pending) SSN on them. Since I'll be getting a refund I don't need to worry about the April 15th deadline. I'm just not sure what to do here..any ideas??

That's GREAT! Yes! Just have all of his paperwork ready to go and if cousin still swaggers, then at the time of the interview, you have another sponsor all ready to go. Two sponsors even hee hee. Dont stress - a month to go and things will work out. I kno they will. Hell Sach, push comes to shove, ILL SPONSOR YOU. Jeez already- this process is makin me an old woman.

...in the same boat Kev. I owe and havent filed yet because of that- however, I know I will need to file and bring the 2009 taxes to the interview too. Let me know what you come up with. Myra told me that she spoke to her tax person and they told her that they dont need to have a soc. sec. no to file - she said she was going to go that route so she can claim her husband for last year. Send her a PM if your interested in that. Let me know what you plan on doing - I owe $1500 if I file now... ugh

Kevin--File for an extension and then send her proof of that.

Thats a plan, but even with an extension you still have to pay if you owe.

Hahha, thanks Alicia! That's sweet of you!

Anyway, so my FIL will have his paperwork done by this weekend and send it over with the boatload of "evidence" my husband is mailing via DHL next week.

My husband will ALSO have a new I-864 for the interview since he has a new job with an income that is putting him over the guidelines.

I should know for sure if my cousin co-operates or not by Friday.

Till then, I'm not gonna think about it. Or stress about it.

See, you don't need a SSN if you file a W-7, ITIN (Individual Taxpayer ID Number). To do that though, you have to submit that form along with your tax return and they can only be snail mailed. Also, the list of documents that have to be send with it is about as bad as the list from the *%$#ing NVC - passport this and notarized that. It's just not worth it at this point. I won't need an extension because I don't owe as long as I can claim her. I think I'll call my tax guy and ask him if he will just send me a copy of my return then send that and copies of my W-2's to her so she can take them to her interview...dunno what else to do really.
