Hi,

SO here's a question - how does the POE timeline go? Once you enter, give them the sealed envelope, what happens next? Does my husband get his green card right away? Do they mail it? What about a SS Card?

We're trying to plan how he can move his career here - and any idea on timelines obviously helps!!

Hi,

The dates that Sachi posts are when your documents were recieved at NVC's mailroom - not when the AVR acknowledges...

Once the go through POE, they get an I-551 stamp in the greencard... This will act as a temporary green card until the actual card arrives... From theat point hey can start looking for a job and can work... However, after about 10 days go to your local Social Security office, they will usually have on file the SS# and give you a print out on it... then the SS card will come about 7-10 days later.... The actual GC has been taking about 4-6 weeks to arrive. But the I-551 stamp serves as a GC for up to a year...

You can actually start to apply (meaning send out resumes etc..) before POE, but they will not usually let you start before receiving your SS#, so about 10 days after POE...

10/14/2000 - Met Aboard a Cruise ship

06/14/2003 - Married Savona Italy

I-130

03/21/2009 - I-130 Mailed to Chicago lockbox

11-30-09: GOT GREEN CARD in mail!!!!!!

Citizenship Process;

1/11/2013: Mailed N400 to Dallas Texas

3/11/2013: interview.. Approved

4/4/2013. : Oath! Now a U.S. citizen!

I have a question about form I-864 the AOS # 8, 9, 10 and 21.

8. I "X" the box "I am sponsoring the principle immigrant named in Part 2" and also check "Yes"? He's the only one I'm sponsoring.

9. "I am sponsoring the following family members immigrating at the same time or within six months of the principal immigrant named in Part 2 above. Do not include any relative listed on a separate visa petition." I don't check this box...right?

10. "Enter the total number of immigrants you are sponsoring on this form from Part 3, Items 8 and 9." I put "01"?

21. "a. Enter the number you entered on line 10", "b. Yourself", and "c. If you are currently married, enter 1 for your spouse" So I would put 1 for a,b&c. And finally on "h. Add together and enter the number here. Household size:"...I would put 2 right? Because it says not to count anyone twice...where my husband would count for a and c.

I'm not sure if I filled these in correctly, could someone verify or correct me. I don't want to fill in anything wrong. I'm a US Citizen, its both our first marriage and hes the only one I am sponsoring as my spouse.

Thanks so much..and have a fabulous Monday!

Absolutely ! grab an I-9 form, study it. What 'saves you' for Day 1 - err.. FROM Day 1, past POE -

is that you get a stamp in the passport that VALIDATES the visa to be used as a temporary I-551 card (green card).

So, with the SSN in hand, with that thingie in the passport - you can work. No need to wait on physical GC delivery.

Sometimes my language usage seems confusing - please feel free to 'read it twice', just in case !

So, I e-mailed my embassy last week to ask about where I can have my medical done, since I probably will have to travel some to have it. I also asked when I had to have it done by (like how many days before the actual interview)...

Their answer was to wait for the NVC to tell my the panel physicians and that my medical can be done either before or after my interview...

Did I get like an intern answering my e-mail? This makes no sense at all.

Off course I have to have my medical before my interview, and why can't you just tell me what doctors are allowed to do the exam!!! AAARGHHH!

So the stupidity didn't stop at NVC...

I'm rooting for alot of you to get your CC's this week!!

Gave NVC our emails this morning. If I understand this right... now I wait for their emails to us to send the DS3032 and pay the AOS bill. Yes I have read the guides (more than once... more than twice... etc), just making sure that I am thinking clearly because the excitement is building... I think everyone here understands what I am saying!

And by the way, anyone have any idea how long it is taking for an interview in Jordan now? I know last year when we tried the K1 it was about 3 months. But I had read that there had been some improvements in that embassy and was hoping it might be faster now. :)

Hey so did you get your interview date??? my understanding was that you needed the interview letter in order to do the medical apt. also for the vaccination, i got direct emails from one of the docs who does medical checks in the hyderabad clinic - he said that you'd only need 2 or 3 of the vaccinations for someone who is already in their late 20s/early 30s (my wife's 28). so it wont be so bad for your hubby. i think the whole thing should end up costing less than 3000 Rs (50-60 us dollars).

No, I am not sure when we will get the interview date, I am not going to call until the end of the week. Hubby only has to have 3 shots... so thats not that bad. He told me last night that it is going to cost him somewhere around $140...

I dont know for other areas but... Dr. Chawla in Delhi... he doesnt require an interview date or letter.. And from what I have read off of the website the medical is good for 1 year... So I thought it shouldnt hurt to go ahead and get it out of the way, I believe he is going to go the last week in March or the First week in April..

makes no sense at ALL!! I was reading... and I dont think that it should be that different between the consulates but... in the NEW Delhi Consulate they said that the medical has to be preformed atleast 7 days before the interview... and that a medical is good for 1 year...

I think this whole immigration process is going to be the death of me!!!
