NVC March 2010 Edition!

I have 2 general questions.

How does the NVC notify us of the interview date when it comes to that point?

On the embassy website it says:

"You should schedule your medical appointment no later than six weeks before your intended date of departure to the United States, and no earlier than six months before your departure date."

Is this a hardline? Or is this a guideline in case additional tests or something are needed? The way it is written seems to imply that you cannot depart for the US until 6 weeks after the medical.

You need to check with das German VJers : ) Countries are different. Some you get a list of Dr.'s and you call and schedule it, some are scheduled for you already when you get your interview date. Some require it within a month of the interview, some a few days, some are more lenient. If you want to know in advance, I would check your Germany portal page....

I asked this in the Russia Forum, but I'm wondering what everyone else here is already doing or planning to do regarding the documents the sponsor must send with the DS-230. Are you sending copies of the supporting documents (birth certificate, marriage certificate, police certificate..), or originals?

My understanding is that all the original documents must be brought to the interview. Also, I asked an operator at the NVC, and she said that, at least for Moscow, and maybe this applies to all the Appointment Post processing embassies, that the documents sent to the NVC with the DS-230 do not need to be originals. They can be plain photocopies and they don't even need to be certified.

I hope this is actually true, because we are just waiting on my wife's Police Certificate, and we can save 4 days waiting on the original to be sent here if we can just scan and email it to the U.S.

Here's the topic I started on the RUB forum: http://www.visajourney.com/forums/index.php?showtopic=245951

I don't know for sure, but i am guessing if there is further testing that they need to do, you want to have it all cleared and no delays to your "plans". I know for the philippine people, they sometimes get their medical a couple of days before their interview and then leave almost right as soon as they get the visa. Is this something you found on the US embassy in germany site? I dont remember reading that on the manila embassy site.

http://germany.usembassy.gov/visa/iv/step6/

"Step 6: Get your Medical Examination done.

[Return to Steps]

A medical examination by an approved panel physician is required for your Immigrant Visa.

The following documents are required when you take your medical examination:

Valid passport

3 photographs (photo requirements)

Vaccination records (vaccination requirements (pdf))

Fee

Tests/results of any disabilities or illnesses.

Medical examination procedure

In order to avoid unnecessary delays in the issuance of your immigrant visa, we are providing you with a list of the Consulate's panel physicians in Germany.

You may make your own appointment for the medical examination in advance of your interview at any one of the physicians' offices listed.

You should schedule your medical appointment no later than six weeks before your intended date of departure to the United States, and no earlier than six months before your departure date.

NOTE: You do not need an appointment for the physicians in Frankfurt, they accept walk-ins from Monday to Fridays from 07:30am - 11:00am. "

I did the same as you.

We sent the original as it was issued from the place of issue and one copy. Everyone on here says that you need to send original to the NVC and take photocopies to the interview....I dont know if russia is the same. When gathering documents I just had my wife get enough "originals" so she could have them and I could send them to the NVC.

That is weird...maybe something to do with vaccinations? Dont know though. Goes to show you how places do it differently. In Manila they just have to do the medical no later than 1 week prior to the interview.

I do believe its originals, regardless of AP Embassies. The Gov site requests originals and a copy. I understand that you will get your originals back at the time of the interview. If your unsure, call and confirm, but I'd have your wife overnight you all original docs as it seems to be the case for everyone.

Check out Russia's reciprocity schedule on what is required.

That's what confused me. Because they allow walk-ins for the medical, but they say to do it at least 6 weeks before you are to depart. My guess is that they don't want you to buy your airplane ticket before you know you've passed, and no additional tests are needed.
