I'm still struggling to put my petition packet together, I remember there was a checklist on this site but I can't find it now. :(

So this is what I am confused about:

(1) For intent to get married later, I know that with my packet I need I-129 form, and G 325A form, but do I also need to include notarized letters from friends and family? AND/OR a letter of intent from both the applicant and the beneficiary to be sent into the USCIS???

Or Am I supposed to provide the letters of intent and the notarized stuff after my fiance arrive to the USA??

Also,

(2)Am I supposed to have some sort of PROOF or something that we are intending to get married? We're both filling out forms isnt that enough clue that we are trying to get married?!!!!!! THIS IS STRESSING ME OUT NEEDLESSLY! :crying: We cant afford wedding plans yet. I was planning to just have marriage papers done first and celebrate the year after when we are settled down. *SIGH*

(3) I'm suppose to copy my birth certificate front and back, but there's nothing on the back, what am I suppose to put on the back?!!!!!!

(4) Lastly, When am I suppose to indicate I am unemployed and need a co-supporter? Is this part for later on ?? I'm confused :crying: STRESSED OUT!!!

Please help!

-Thanks,

Dot

Hello :) Deep breaths! Read the guides & all will be well.

1. You will need a letter from both the petitioner and beneficiary just stating that you are both legally able and intend to marry when your fiance gets to the US. No letters from friends/family required.

2. No, you don't need to include proof that you intend to marry (other than the 2 letters.) The only proof required for the initial petition is proof that you've met in the last 2 years in person. Your plan to legally marry when your fiance arrives & have a bigger celebration later is completely fine!

3. Mine didn't have anything on the back either - I made a photocopy (color) of the back and included it. You don't need to (and shouldn't!) put anything on the back.

4. The I-134 (the proof that you are going to support your fiance, or when you provide information about a co-sponsor if that's the route you're going) comes during the interview stage. You don't need this yet! Just be honest when filling out the G-325A and when it asks about current employment you put unemployed. That's it. Co-sponsor comes into play for the interview.

I know it's stressful, but try not to freak out too much! Up at the top of the page you will find a link to the guides, and that is probably where you found the checklist you can't find anymore :) Good luck!

Below is a list of what you need for the I129f packet (this was from my cover letter)

I-129F

- I-129F Supplement: Part B, Question 18, explanation of meeting in person

- G-325A and passport style photo (Petitioner)

- G-325A and passport style photo (Beneficiary)

- Birth certificate/US Passport (Petitioner)

- Letter certifying intent to marry (Petitioner and Beneficiary)

- Proof of having met in person in the past two years

- Proof of ongoing relationship

Copies of documents submitted are exact photocopies of unaltered documents and I understand that I may be required to submit original documents to an Immigration or Consular officer at a later date.

You dont need notarized letters from anyone yet - those would be consular level for interview to help establish bonifide relationship.

Letters of intent - should be one from each of you, signed and dated

Birth Certificate - Most US birth certificates have form type info in the back - may not be any information in the form - you should still copy both sides.

I134 affidavit of support is a consular level document - not needed yet (need for interview)

At this point for the petition you have to prove that you have met personally within the past two years. Your letters of intent should state that you are legally free and willing to marry (each other).

Sit back with a good cup of tea and read all the guides completely and slowly. The petition is the EASY part. You'll want to have a complete and good understanding of the ENTIRE process.

Best Wishes!!!!

Before you send in your 129, have a very good understanding of what the Visa Process is all about. The better your 129 Petition is, the easier the interview will be. Keep in mind, the Visa Interview Officer is not bound by any rules or regulation, only his Professional and Personal Opinion, that you have a bonafide "real" relationship. Read as much as you can on denials here, and you will see what not to do, as well as what to do, in regards to getting a Visa. An "EOR" , evolution of relationship, letter with photos, showing your relationship from when and how you first met up until you send in your petition may help the Visa Officer get a clear view of your relationship. Having met in person 1 time is required, but more than once is better. I had my "Intend to Marry" document notarized at a bank. Problably no need for notary, but did it anyway. This is overkill for Canada.

Spend some time in your regional forum. Immigration and the visa process is different for each country.

It's a good idea to read as much as you can about all aspects of the process, but don't dwell on posts about denials for lack of bona fide relationships, need to 'front load' your petition, etc. unless it's something they're talking about in the Canada forum. Some consulates are notoriously harder to get through (Islamabad, Lagos, Casablanca for example) than others (Vancouver, London, Frankfurt).

Yes, a good understanding of the fiance visa process is important but it starts by filing an I-129F petition, not an I-129 for a worker visa.

Hey thanks all of you in the above that actually gave me a reply instead of asking me to read the guides which I already had and got confused.

One more question though now that I am almost done, am I supposed to submit photocopies of everything like photos and such that I have pasted together? Or am I suppose to provide the real copy?!

It seems like I will need the real copy later on for Immigration or Consular officer??? as given on some cover letter samples.

Thx again guys :)

Absolutely. After spending some time reading reviews and personal experiences from Canadians who interviewed in Canada's two K-1 processing consulates (Montreal and Vancouver) you will feel a lot better about what you face later in the process. Many of us have commented that the interview is actually the easiest part of the process.

You don't need to provide any originals of any evidence you are sending in with your petition, just copies. Save the originals to bring to the interview. Although they will probably not be needed, it is always nice to be prepared.

It's actually Edmonton, Alberta, Canada. I'm not sure if it would be the same as the Vancouver and Montreal? But I'll take a look . Thanks for the tips. I will send in photo copies of photographs then? Do you think it will turn out looking fake? Or should I get colored copies? :I

If you're from Edmonton you'll be interviewing in Vancouver. Vancouver is the faster of the two consulates

For photographs, I would actually try to get a second set developed. I don't really know how well a photocopy would turn out. Sometimes if you're lucky and you ask nicely they will give you the pictures back at your interview.

Hi Dot - here is another option of your photos are digital:

Since all our photos were taken in digital format (most are nowadays!), I used power point. I copy and pasted photos into power point slides, you can resize them and fit as many as you like onto a page. I then added captions, dates and places. This could also be done using some other photo software package.

For the interview package I did the same. I sent about 15 pages with about 150 pictures with my I129F (some would consider this a bit of frontloading - we were going through a particularly difficult consulate (Vietnam). For the interview stage we had about double that - all the copies I sent with the I129F and an additional 15 pages or so with another few hundred photos. I included photos of the two of us together, with family, with friends, at her company parties for Tet, pics of the two of us together at places we visited etc...

There were no problems or questions using this method for supplying photos.

Whatever you send will end up at the consulate but you wont get them back. They will remain with your package that ends up back with the CBP at POE in the brown pacakge.

Good Luck and Best Wishes

I sent actual copies of photographs (they were all digital, so it was easy & inexpensive to make several sets at the drug store.) Everything else I made color copies of & sent those, and brought the originals to the interview.
