What is the preferred method for the payment?? Personal check? Cashiers Check? Money order? Bag of pennies??

Check or money order.

We used our personal check so we could see when it was cashed/accepted.

In my opinion personal check is the best because you can tell when they cash your check and imprint a receipt number for the extension letter (not the same as the case#). Its an early indication for an accepted application.

If you use a personal check make sure it has your name and address PRE-printed on the check otherwise they will consider it a starter check which will be refused. I have a checking account but did not have my name and address printed on the checks because my addess was going to be temporary and I did not want to have to order new checks to reflect the new address. So I called USCIS to ask if my personal check would be accepted if my name and address

were hand written on the check (upper left hand side) and they said no.

I'm sending in our I-751 application in today and just purchased a USPS money order.

The instructions say: Personal check or money order drawn from a US bank. (No cash so the bag-o-pennies is out and a cashier's check is a bit of overkill.)

If you have a checking account - that is probably the best (mostly because you can easily see when it was 'cashed.')

The address is no big deal - I always recommend you put the A#(s) and Form # in the memo field (and of course make sure the amount and payee are correct and don't forget to sign the check).

Personal check is better - it provides you an additional piece of evidence that you paid in addition to knowing that the check was cleared before you receive your NOA.
