After my fiance and I complete our marriage, will she be able to go right away after we have our marriage certificate recorded at the clerks office and change her name at the DPS office? or what is the next step I need to do?

If yes, what kind of documents are needed for the name change and where? Do I have to wait a certain period of time after we turn our marriage certificate? (we are hand delivering our marriage papers to speed things up)

I'm not too sure how to do it (even though I do have to!) but I think your wife would need to change her name at the SS offices or the DMV or something, once she has a SSN??

I just put my married name on all the visa application forms and put my maiden name in the Middle Name box... and once I have a SSN I'll go change my name.

I think.

It's pretty confusing stuff.

Ahh I think Im lost... sorry..

So I can go change my name at the DMV with just a copy of my marriage certificate for the driver's liscense?

AND

I need to go to the Social Security office and take a certified copy of my marriage liscense, photo copy of my birth certificate as well to get a name change too?

I think it does varies according to your state. Here in NM I'm having problems to get things done with my married name - because I only have the marriage certificate with it, and with my maiden name, as stated in my passaport as it is not my legal name anymore. So I went to DMV with passport and marriage certificate. I also had to present two proofs of address (when I was doing the state ID exactly to be able to open a bank account and then have proof of my address) so I presented tax code (I don't have ssn yet, as I'm still on a tourist visa) and the extension of my tourist visa. I was almost suure DMV wouldn't accept those, but they did and my first official document with married name (state ID) was in my hands in less than 15 min.

I haven't changed my last name yet, filed with my current (maiden) name because I had read somewhere that the name in the forms had to match the name on your passport and visa. Since I didn't want to go through the hassle of changing the name on everything just yet, I decided to just file with this name, then when the whole thing is done I'll just change my name for everything all at once.

Hey, I've been reading up further on the name change thing and found that to change the name on the greencard from maiden name to married name it will cost about $300! Now, I've already filed my AOS and done the biometrics.. any chance to still change to my married name?? (Note: Haven't done legal name change yet. In my state you fill out some forms and take the marriage certificate with you to the DMV and SSN office. I already have a state license and SSN in my maiden name)
