well i figured that there was some automated way to do it from the info you input into your timeline. it just looked like other people were all so similar to the way it was input and that it was generated and not put in themselves.

signature timelines (imo) are stupid and self-indulgent.
Not disagreed, but my K-1 timeline is staying exactly where it is so that all who read it can be warned about a certain ####### consulate.

06-04-2007 = TSC stamps postal return-receipt for I-129f.

06-11-2007 = NOA1 date (unknown to me).

07-20-2007 = Phoned Immigration Officer; got WAC#; where's NOA1?

09-25-2007 = Touch (first-ever).

09-28-2007 = NOA1, 23 days after their 45-day promise to send it (grrrr).

10-20 & 11-14-2007 = Phoned ImmOffs; "still pending."

12-11-2007 = 180 days; file is "between workstations, may be early Jan."; touches 12/11 & 12/12.

12-18-2007 = Call; file is with Division 9 ofcr. (bckgrnd check); e-prompt to shake it; touch.

12-19-2007 = NOA2 by e-mail & web, dated 12-18-07 (187 days; 201 per VJ); in mail 12/24/07.

01-09-2008 = File from USCIS to NVC, 1-4-08; NVC creates file, 1/15/08; to consulate 1/16/08.

01-23-2008 = Consulate gets file; outdated Packet 4 mailed to fiancee 1/27/08; rec'd 3/3/08.

04-29-2008 = Fiancee's 4-min. consular interview, 8:30 a.m.; much evidence brought but not allowed to be presented (consul: "More proof! Second interview! Bring your fiance!").

05-05-2008 = Infuriating $12 call to non-English-speaking consulate appointment-setter.

05-06-2008 = Better $12 call to English-speaker; "joint" interview date 6/30/08 (my selection).

06-30-2008 = Stokes Interrogations w/Ecuadorian (not USC); "wait 2 weeks; we'll mail her."

07-2008 = Daily calls to DOS: "currently processing"; 8/05 = Phoned consulate, got Section Chief; wrote him.

08-07-08 = E-mail from consulate, promising to issue visa "as soon as we get her passport" (on 8/12, per DHL).

08-27-08 = Phoned consulate (they "couldn't find" our file); visa DHL'd 8/28; in hand 9/1; through POE on 10/9 with NO hassles(!).

Timeline

When we were in the application/approval process, I found other people's timelines in their signature to be helpful - a good fast reference. In regular threads, it's not so helpful (if you are in a regional forum for instance)

I wonder if people are aware of the check box available at the bottom of each message you post, which you can uncheck to exclude your signature from that particular post - if you are in a What's for dinner thread, no need to post your 25 line timeline.

Oh well, I turned signatures off quite a while ago, but it would be great if more people know about that feature and used it

TBone -- you get a pass from me in my quest to annihilate big sigs, si man. :star::lol:

Seriously though, trailmix makes a great point about being able to leave your sig off. I think a lot of people are unaware of this option. :)

I like the time lines in the signature because you can tell without extra effort where someone is in the process when answering their question, and likewise, you can tell easily the context of the answer based on where the responder is in their process.

I agree, sometimes they do get a little unwieldy when all the touches and visits are recorded, and I have on occasion said "wow, that's long" and gone in to do some pruning on my own sig. I guess since I remember how excited I was for progress that the second thing I did (after talking to Nik about it) was run to VJ to update my info, I feel a little more indulgent towards people who are still in the midst of the process including all that info.

K-1:

January 28, 2009: NOA1

June 4, 2009: Interview - APPROVED!!!

October 11, 2009: Wedding

AOS:

December 23, 2009: NOA1!

January 22, 2010: Bogus RFE corrected through congressional inquiry "EAD waiting on biometrics only" Read about it here.

March 15, 2010: AOS interview - RFE for I-693 vaccination supplement - CS signed part 6!

March 27, 2010: Green Card recieved

ROC:

March 1, 2012: Mailed ROC package

March 7, 2012: Tracking says "notice left"...after a phone call to post office.

More detailed time line in profile.

signature fluff got to me, when the Mistress/Madame of Groovy threw in photos and movies.

So I learned how to 'turn that off' here.

If I really want to look at someone's signature - well, I can read their profile - it's all in there.

If someone has a question that I think I can answer, I study the timeline, first, not the signature block.

Ya, I turn off my signature when I reply, each and every time.

Then, when daBoo was throwing charts and graphs - I decided - #### all - no more graphics on this site, either.

I gots me a lean/mean version o VJ without going into Mobile Mode.

I worry about those poor souls on Dial Up ;)

Sometimes my language usage seems confusing - please feel free to 'read it twice', just in case !
Ya know, you can find the answer to your question with the advanced search tool, when using a PC? Ditch the handphone, come back later on a PC, and try again.

Congratulations on your approval ! We All Applaud your accomplishment with Most Wonderful Kissies !

What I don't get is how everyone says how much extra 'effort' is req'd to click a timeline. Really, peeps? Clicking a button is now 'effort'?

Try reading a status thread, where you want to compare with all the other filers. One click here and there is no issue. Want to quickly try to get a feel for what's going on with a group in a thread, just scroll (if they have it in their signatures). Besides, the time lines don't have options for all the dates people might be curious about.

Obviously I'm not alone in liking at least some timeline info in signatures or you wouldn't see them all over the place in threads by people who are in the midst of the process/waiting for approvals.

Hey, you're not the only one I've heard that from, so pls don't take it personally...but at the end of the day, clicking a button being equated to 'effort' is just kinda  to me.

I think timeline sigs give the noobs the wrong impression...if one actually fills in one's timeline where it should be, VJ can use that information to gain great info and have updated statistics. Of course, I'm not for nannying noobs, but VJ as a community loses out when the 'sig timeline' is picked over the actual timeline.

And iirc, there are options that the VJ timeline can actually find your closest timeline buddy anways...

ECM - I know! *sheesh* ;)

Seems to me that the people who *use* the siggys the most are people going through the process. Personally, once I got to a certain stage I turned them off, and certainly don't miss the additional clutter when reading. I guess TBH - if they are not useful to oneself in the VJ sense (ie: reading timelines) what's the point in complaining about them? Turn them off? The mods will request removal of any racy or inappropriate stuff, and will request length revisions. So I don't really get railing against it.
