Hey everyone,

I am currently in Pakistan with my husband who just got his visa issued last week *yay*- today i found out that I am pregnant- good news, unplanned but its ok... it just doesnt fit in with my plan though of returning to the US and getting back to work. I had an offer from my previous job upon my return but its near impossible for me because the commute alone is 4 hours daily and it is extremely demanding and seeing that I am pregnant now- I know I can not do that commute again. I am planning on returning to the States next month but I am really confused about what I should do with insurance since I have none anymore. I know its going to take a while for my husband to settle down and find a job so I am not counting on that either. I heard I can apply for Medicad but does it affect my husband's immigration status?

Any suggestions are welcomed! Thanks!

Maybe you could stay in Pakistan? It's already overpopulated, what's one more child for them?

this is probably the last place i would want to be considering the condition of hospitals

Even with $$$? If you could find a good hospital, wouldn't it be cheaper than doing it here without insurance?

I dotn think that you having medicaid will effect his status. I have Medi-cal Bluecross in California for my kids and myself. never effected my husbands case, he now has 10 year green card.

What state are you from? Most states have special medicaid programs for pregnant women, and no, it won't affect your husband's case.

A 2 hour commute is crazy but I know there are some extreme cases like that. The national average for a one-way commute is around 22 minutes I believe.

Just a suggestion...Health Department in your area of residence in the US. They have free clinics for pregnant women.

Good luck.

Every state has a no-cost health insurance program for pregnancies and post-natal care. Your local health department, or social services agency, is the place to start. Won't you need a job to have money to live on?

That is quite unnecessary and rude.

I'm sorry, I don't know anything about insurance but I hope that you get some good information from someone who does.

This is not rude and very necessary.. I posted a more firm answer .. If you feel different then you help them with their problem and You pay for the costs of their baby ..OK?

Seriously, having a baby in the US without insurance is freakin' expensive. There was just a thread here this weekend on the costs and it is astronomical. Search for it and read it if you don't believe me. Find a good private hospital in Pakistan--I'm sure they exist and I'm sure you're not living in a friggin' village--and have your baby there. Far, far cheaper. And your husband will be there with you as well. Good luck. :)
