Hello Everybody,

I have been going back and forth about this, and thought I would get some clarification from other VJ members. As I have gathered the reciepts that I need and reserved the location for my wedding. In addition to this I had inquired in my city about marriage license and how soon can I apply. I thought that maybe it would be a good idea to get started on this before my fiance comes. At least submit the application to show that we are going to apply. Since, you have to apply for this 90 days prior to the marriage. Well, after talking to several people they gave me a number of someone who was able to help me. She inquired at the county clerks office and took the initiative to fill out the online application which is good for two weeks. There is no fee to fill out, but if me and my fiance do not appear to get our license within that time frame, basically I have to fill out another one. Well, this lady has been really good about providing me correspondense that she has been helping me. Meaning I have letters from her on the letter head stating exactly what she has been helping me with. The problem is she is not a licensed attorney, but provides services to attorney and the general public. I was going to submit these letters from her as evidence as well with my other reciepts. To show that I consulted with someone about the marriage license. Will this be a problem since she was not my initial attorney that represented me? Will the consulate question this? I am just a bit worried. I just don't want to open another bag of worms. She just helped me guide me on what options as I have for a marriage license. Any advice would be appreciated.

This doesn't really effect your petition. When your fiance obtains the visa and enters the US go down and apply for the marriage license. Showing that you inquired about the license doesn't help or hurt your case.

A US marriage license is generally simple to obtain and is done in one day. Not sure what makes you think you must apply 90 days in advance. You must marry within 90 days of the fiance's arrival. At most, you'll need to wait three days after obtaining the license to marry, depending on the State.
