I actually had this done to my hair today and my hair feels fine. They did not take all of the color out. It was taken down to a reddish color and then they conditioned and recolored my hair. I think it's really important for the colorist doing this to really know what they are doing. I will add that I don't have nearly as much hair as you do.

Another thing...the colorist today were saying that when the color is removed that sometimes it's not even.

Waiting.....Waiting....waiting....waiting....and more waiting..........

What would you do? Place #1 or #2?

Nessa ~ I went to school for cosmetology & worked at a salon. Stripping your hair is the LAST thing you want to do. I would go with place #2 - but I would make sure you tell them you want heavy highlighting but not chunky, very thin ones like this one:

hairhome.jpg

The reason is, the highlighting will give you the overall result you want. It will be heavy yet small so it will blend in and give the overall effect of a lighter color. In a few months, you can go back for a touch up on the highlights OR if you're lucky, the rest of your hair will have lightened up enough so that you can single process it yourself at home.

Any other advice you know where to find me ;)

you are scheduled for trip to Brasil soon, yes?

IMO, get it done there. Also study Shakira's stylist's hair work... ;)

Um, I have dyed my own hair a lot and although I can get a really awesome red, blonde was really hard and it turned out really yellowish orange. Yuck. I think it might work out for you ok but it is kind of iffy. However, when I have had my hair dyed blondish at the salon it comes out really nice (and expensive.) I know your hair looks really pretty as it is but i know that urge to dye.

You have really beautiful healthy hair. As a man I can only tell you second hand info since I don't have long hair and I've never done anything to my hair. Stripping is bad, when the hair is colored again it looks terrible, the color looks phony. You have to keep moisturizing the hair or the luster will be gone. Never strip your hair.

I think your bigger problem is that giant green blemish on your face.

LOL on the big green blemish.

I disagree on the lack of luster - there are amazing products nowadays, I've been dying my hair for 25 years, no one has a clue unless I do something dramatic, and I'm complimented on the color and the shine all of the time. There are lighteners that don't damage your hair that you can do at home, but I would recommend going to a salon if you aren't experienced in using the products. I dye my hair black periodically (see my pic to the left) and then get sick of it within a couple of months and dye it back to red.

Your hair is absolutely gorgeous and doesn't need to be changed at all, but I definitely know the feeling of wanting a change...and the color you chose will look beautiful with your skin tone.

I would go with option number 2 - bring the color up gradually - and condition the heck out of it afterwards. Also, I would speak to some of their former clients and get recommendations, especially on which stylist is best at this process. If you get someone straight out of beauty school, or who isn't familiar with the process it could end in disaster and tears.

Hope you'll post a pic afterwards (with or without big green dot!)

 Yes. Shakira sings that hips don't lie. Shakira was one of my crushes back in high school.

"Oh baby when you talk like that

You make a woman go mad

So be wise and keep on

Reading the signs of my body

And I'm on tonight

You know my hips don't lie

And I'm starting to feel it's right

All the attraction, the tension

Don't you see baby, this is perfection..."
