Hello Everyone!

I am a new member but I have been checking these boards from to time these past couple of months. I'm from the US and have been living in Istanbul for the past two years with my husband. We decided to apply for the CR-1 in November 2009. Today, we received his passport with the conditional visa.

I have a question about what is written on the conditional visa in his passport. Near the bottom it reads "Upon endorsement serves as temporary I-551 evidencing permanent residence for 1 year". What exactly does this mean in layman terms? I don't want to misinterpret what is written. Also, there are annotations on the visa. Does anyone know where I can find out what they mean?

Thank you for your help! :)

the endorsement is a stamp.

the stamp is given at the port of entry, when/if HE comes into the USA.

what are the exact annotations?

Sometimes my language usage seems confusing - please feel free to 'read it twice', just in case !

It isn't a conditional visa - the CR in CR-1 means Conditional Resident (the condition being, after you enter the US, if you're still married after 2 years, you would get a 10-year, non-conditional resident card).

The annotation means - when first entering the US, the passport will be stamped - it will then serve as your PR/Green Card until they send you one - which they will do automatically to the address on file within a few weeks.

Smells like a vaccination waiver, but I could be wrong.
