Quick question: Is it possible for me to translate our marriage certificate myself for the I-130 or does it have to be done by a certified translator (or at least a 3rd party)?

Hola, is this for the application form I 130 or for NVC Form DS230??

if it is for the application anybody can do it..at least a 3rd person...not a certified translator

if it is for the NVC form you dont need to translated if your spouse is in the country where the interview will be in your case Colombia..

hi it is better for you to translate your marriage certificate to a certified transalator when you transalate your marriage certificate notary attest and then you can also attest your marriage certificate copy by ministery of foriegn affairs and then you can also collect your 2 releative affitdafit which mean your 2 family member present and eye witness of your marriage ceremony

You can do it yourself. Just follow the guidelines (certifying). I did mines and had no problem. You can really save yourself some money. =)

This can tend to be country specific but for Spanish language documents, anybody who is willing to add and sign a statement indicating they are fluent in English and Spanish can certify the translations. It's the translations, not the translatOR that is certified.

On the other hand, some Consulates, like Guangzhou, China are going to require the translations be done by the Gong Zheng Chu (Notarial Office) when presented to them, even if USCIS accepted some other form of translation for the petition.
