look, I'm sure Gary practises what he preaches - doesn't drive on any roads that were built through taxes, has installed his own electricity and water pipes, doesn't enter any government building that someone ELSE'S taxes built, years before he came along... I'm sure he ONLY uses what he can directly pay for

right, Gary?

The Very Secret Diary of Legolas Son of Weenus - by Cassandra Claire

Day One: Went to Council of Elrond. Was prettiest person there. Agreed to follow some tiny little man to Mordor to throw ring into volcano. Very important mission - gold ring so tacky.

Day Six: Far too dark in Mines of Moria to brush hair properly. Am very afraid I am developing a tangle.

Orcs so silly.

Still the prettiest.

Day 35: Boromir dead. Very messy death, most unnecessary. Did get kissed by Aragorn as he expired. Does a guy have to get shot full of arrows around here to get any action? Boromir definitely not prettier than me. Cannot understand it. Am feeling a pout coming on.

Frodo off to Mordor with Sam. Tiny little men caring about each other, rather cute really.

Am quite sure Gimli fancies me. So unfair. He is waist height, so can see advantages there, but chunky braids and big helmet most off-putting. Foresee dark times ahead, very dark times.

It is not possible to "socialize things responsibly". Socialization and responsibility are mutually exclusive by design and definition.

Stupidity is its own reward...or punishment. IF we allow stupid people to be stupid, they will punish themselves. Socialization is protecting stupid people at the expense of clever people. The government needs to STAY OUT. Stupid people will live as stupid people do and clever people will live as clever people do. There is, and should be, a reward for being clever, planning, making good decisions, etc.

Plutocracy is the fairest form of government. Who knew.

OK Gary, so what happens when you run out of cash? Will you happily up sticks and go live under a cardboard box?

I own two paid for houses. In two countries. whichever country I am in when I run out of cash, I will live in that house. Why would I live in a box? worse case i would do without electricity, but why would I run out of cash? I mean this is getting silly now.

What bothers people so much about someone being independent? Does it really offend you I do not need the government teat?

Good luck with that. When you soon find that no private insurance will cover you or you'll be priced out of it, you'll be welcoming Medicare with open arms.

Gary is going to do the mature and responsible thing when he needs end of life care - a bullet to the brain. Simple

Refusing to use the spellchick!

I have put you on ignore. No really, I have, but you are still ruining my enjoyment of this site. .

right, Gary?

Right. I pay taxes for all those things. what is the problem? How am I a hypocrite for paying for my own medical care?

You are not independent, you are irresponsible and you sponge off every decent citizen yet proclaim model citizen status. That's what is offensive, if you really want to know. Not that you personally bother me, but generically yes, that bothers me.

If I choose to I will buy my own bullet. Actually I MAKE my own bullets...but be that as it may, I will not ask you to pay for it.

I'm all for helping out a family who has a child with a serious illness and who can't afford an operation, but I fear most of the higher taxes everyone will have to pay will go towards curing illnesses which are self-inflicted by gluttony, stupidity and laziness.

No, Gary what bothers me is the conceit (there you go with your ego again) that you are fully independent. You aren't - you make use of the social infrastructure - to pretend otherwise is a delusion.

So I ask again - if a person requires major life-saving surgery and cannot afford it, in your view do they deserve to die?

If they self-inflicted that condition, imo YES.

Yeah well as you refuse to answer any question on how exactly one determines that a condition was "self-inflicted", I'll take that opinion with the truckload of salt it requires ;)

I do not proclaim model citizen status, you gave that to me. I speak the truth and pay my own way. How is that "sponging off" others? Why is that offensive? How is it irresponsible to pay my own medical bills, pay off my mortgage, write a check for the cars? The credit crunch has no affect on me. I do not know my credit score and don't care. I do not play the credit game.

The idea that a person that pays for their own family is irresponsible is preposterous. Do you have a clue how silly that sounds?

so if THAT is what is offensive, then it is a reflection on you...not me

I think the idea is that you not paying the full cost of the healthcare you received affects the premiums of people with insurance.

Why should get a 50% discount? Why would you not want to pay the full 100% cost of your procedure? Surely that's the only way you would be paying for yourself with no liability to others.

Consuming more calories than you burn leads to being overweight and, eventually, obesity. The body stores unused calories as fat. Obesity can be the result of:

Eating more food than your body can use

Drinking too much alcohol

Not getting enough exercise

An underactive thyroid (hypothyroidism) may lead to weight gain, but usually only 5 - 10 pounds of weight. Some antidepressants and antipsychotic medicines may also contribute to weight gain and obesity. Genetic factors play some part in the development of obesity -- children of obese parents are 10 times more likely to be obese than children with parents of normal weight.

People who are at higher risk for obesity include:

Lower income groups

Former smokers

People with chronic mental illness

People with disabilities

People with a sedentary lifestyle

Complications

Obesity is a significant health threat. The extra weight puts added stress on all parts of your body.

Medical problems commonly resulting from untreated obesity and morbid obesity include:

Type 2 diabetes and metabolic syndrome

High blood pressure, heart disease, and stroke

Obstructive sleep apnea and other sleep disorders

Certain cancers, including breast and colon

Depression

Osteoarthritis

Extreme obesity can lead to a gradual decrease in the level of oxygen in your blood, a condition called hypoxemia. Decreased blood oxygen levels and sleep apnea may cause a person to feel sleepy during the day. These conditions may also lead to high blood pressure and pulmonary hypertension. In extreme cases, especially when left untreated, this can lead to right-sided heart failure and ultimately death.

The insurance company pockets 50% usually

Thanks - that completely fails to address what I said.

So are you saying that certain health problems should be totally exempt from healthcare assistance? Anyone who needs any heart related surgery, lung cancer or liver disease - got into that position because they were negligent?
