LOL...not just 'best in the world', but, 'best damned city in the word...bar none!'

as you can see, i LOVE me some chicago.

Out of curiosity but definitely off topic, which cities have you lived in and traveled to? That is, un order to have deduced Chicago is the best.

These guys need to remember who won the international Pizza contest for 2009. Excluding murder capital, one of the most miserable etc, Chicago hasn't won an award in years. Just saying..

It's not a bad city by US standards but falls well short of being classified as world's best.

hey, that's in that one lousy neighborhood, englewood, that singlehandedly gave chicago that 'murder capital' lable. since it was a neighborhood i and most folks avoid, we did.

actually, http://www.askmen.com/specials/2009_top_29/chicago.html puts chicago as it's #1 city based on a number of criteria (that's #1 for 2009).

just saying...melbourne was somewhere in the mid twenties or something...so that's good, right?

If a had a choice of moving to Hiroshima at 8:16am on August 6, 1945, I'd take it over 2010 Chicago.

#1 born and raised in chicago. my heart, always. if the wife could stand chicago winters, we'd be there now.

#2 been all over the country several times, multiple canadian cities and in asia / latin america. i could go anywhere else, and still nothing beats chicago (to me, and , ya know, that's all that really matters. LOL)

that said, i can't tell someone else what's 'best' for them. won't even try. the wife feels that vancouver is the absolute best place in the world. now, i can't argue that it's a close #2 to chicago. seriously, great city.

that's your right, and i shan't argue that. did i mention that on askmen.com, melbourne was somewhere near the bottom of the list?

Cool, though I prefer the 2010 international ranking from the EIU, where Melbourne is ranked third in the world. Unfortunately Chicago did not make the top 60.

again, your right to prefer what you want. i shan't argue one's opinion, because they're like blowholes...everybody has one.

my opinion is STILL that chicago is 'the best damned city in the world'. nyuck nyuck nyuck.

Yeah, many from Chicago seem to have this attitude towards international studies which examine a city against others, based on a set criteria. There was another study out of the US I posted the other day regarding America's most miserable cities, Chicago was 10th. I also find New Yorkers tend to strongly disagree with this opinion of being the best, citing weather as one reason and also claiming they put America on the map. Whereas, crime and corruption put Chicago on the map. They're just opinions though..

well, you'd have to quantify 'many from chicago' for me.

i would venture to guess that many from melbourne would disagree with melbourne being ranked towards the bottom of askmen.com, who also have a 'set of criteria' when judging cities.

yep, new york AND chicago both put the country on the map. orpah, jordon, the cubs, the bears, the university of chicago, northwestern university all add to the greatness of chicago. and yes, chicago has crime, like any big city. sucks for the victims. but the murders mostly happen in poor neighborhoods. dont live there, dont work there, and likely you won't get killed.

again, different criteria, different results. that's cool. and still, i can't help but think that 'chicago is the best damned city in the world'.

Many basically refers to everyone who has lived in Chicago that I have communicated with. All seem to have the same lock-step view of Chicago and being the best. Different strokes for different folks I guess. As you said, opinions are like blowholes.. When people disagree with one anther's opinion, I just prefer to compare international studies, rather than articles from magazines targeted towards guys discussing how to pick up chicks.

If you have some free time, here are three separate international studies comparing cities..

Here are also some street shots I noticed a while back. From what I hear, Chicago is not that bad and basically the quality of the photo has a lot to do with the random shots.

Only pulling your leg though, I like to stir some certain folks from certain cities, that are fanatical about them..
