That from the beginning of the formation of this country, we've had outside influence. That's how progress has worked throughout history. So saying we shouldn't look to other countries for ideas on how to better ourselves is not only stupidly arrogant, it ignores the history of progress.

Given that 40 million Americans have no healthcare, yet the amount we spent per capita is higher than any other industrialized nation, it means we have less of our income to spend on other things.

We also spend more money per-capita on education than other nations, yet our public schools are

turning out minimally skilled Beavises and Buttheads.

It just means our government is really bad at spending money wisely and effectively.

Sure *if* you have insurance and aren't tripped up by any of the exclusions; or if you have enough money to pay for care out of pocket.

It also creates a certain attitude - that the US healthcare system is something to be feared and avoided. I have witnessed this personally.

I don't give a flying #### that America has a better medicare services because if I take good care of my health 80% of the time, I won't be a user of their service. Whatever Canada has more than suffices 80% of the time. And it's free. :-)

Whenever politicians talk about cutting government spending - the first thing to get cut is education. I forget if it was this year or last - but California cut summer school programs, so if you had to retake any units you had to wait until September/October.
