Not to pick on you, BUT the person you're "not picking on" wasn't referring to K1 procedures but instead saying if the OP is bored now, imagine being a K1 who can wait more than 6 months to work... otherwise known as "count your lucky starts you can actually LOOK for work now".

Our chosen route was simple we walked in took a number sat down waited, was called to the window, gave the lady our reason for a new SSN she asked for her passport the lady filled out the forum for us on her PC and out the door, in under 30-40 min. Your method sound exhausting and not necessary.

Yes, that's how mine was done too and the application for SSN was accepted that day. Gave me a receipt, proof that I applied and it was accepted and that if I didn't receive the card in 2 weeks I should inform and show them the receipt.
