hey everyone,

i'm hoping for some advice...i'm trying to do some research into eugines ticket and i'm not sure of the least expensive, most painless way to get it. i know its definately cheaper to buy the ticket from the country of departure, but i'm nervous to send such a large amount of money to him through western union that he has to carry around in the city. but the prices of tickets direct through british airways and south african airways are horrendous from here.

any advice from any of you...how did your s.o's get their tickets?

thanks,

kate

We were lucky. I had given Claudeth an ATM card when I was there in March so just deposited what she needed and she was able to buy the ticket there and saved us about $150

You can make a reservation directly with the airline. Most if not all major airlines will allow someone to make a reservation for a third party, although they will require some paperwork in order to dedit your account/credit card. I have done it before (Sabena airlines, Emirates Airlines and British Airways). Some airlines will fax you a form to fill out. The passenger will pick up the tickets at the airport, at the airline's counter.

Getting the money to Nigeria was easy for us....I hand delivered it to my husband when I went in October. He put the money in the bank, reserved for the plane ticket. However, if we had not been able to do it this way, then I would have bought the ticket for him directly from the airlines and he would have picked up the ticket at the airline office. I know that KLM and Virgin Atlantic allow this--those were the two airlines we found were the cheapest and had looked into. I know that KLM will even allow you to do it on the website--you just tell them which office and which day your SO wants to pick up the ticket (has to be within three days of purchase). Also, with KLM's website, you can go directly to their website for your SO's country and there you will find a cheaper rate because it seems then that you are buying the ticket locally. It was still 100 dollars more than what we were able to buy the ticket for at the KLM office but at least you dont' have to worry about Western Union fees and if he will be safe with the money on the way to buy the ticket.

Also, if you DO send the money to Eugine for the ticket, call the airline to see if they have an office close by that is not at the airport. The KLM office we went to in Nigeria was not at the airport and we were able to park the car right outside the building, walk in quickly, and purchase the ticket. It was definitely safer than walking through multiple groups of people begging for money at the airport---and ALOT less people around that could rob my husband.

My husband flew KLM/Northwest. At that time prices were reasonable and I purchased it over the phone. I did not notice a price difference between him going to their office and me purchasing over the phone. Have you looked at Virgin Atlantic?

tell him to go directly to the airline offline in his country ,it will probably be cheaper that way , and tell him to get a one way ticket to the united states states and make sure he makes enquiries on whether he will need a transit visa, klm airlines in probably better since he will not need a transit visa on his visa, good luck to you

If you go through Kayak.com, you can do a comparison between several different airlines. I find the lowest fares there.
