My fiancée will have POE at JFK. I will not be able to meet her there. She will have a 4-hour layover and then fly to Atlanta. She is not an experienced traveler. I would like to be able to tell her step by step, what to expect. For example, the logistics of claiming and then rechecking luggage. She is a smart girl and speaks good English, she is just anxious about the whole procedure.

If she makes it really fast through immigration, I would like to get her on the next earlier flight, but she is more comfortable with the idea of chilling out for awhile rather than making things more complicated. So, any tips as well on where to relax at JFK. I am guessing she will be dealing with Terminals 3 and 4, but have not confirmed this.

I found out from the Delta rep that changing to a shorter layover mid-travel will not be possible. One less thing to think about. We played it safe by choosing the 4- rather than 2-hour layover.

First she will have to stay in line for custom. After that she will go in a room and wait for a stamp.

I also arrived with Delta and my fiance had to wait for me more than 3 hours.

She will have to get the luggage and then go to the terminal where she will have the next flight.

Check-in one more time.

Congrats!

I will try to remind all steps from my JFK POE last November, let's see:

- There is 3 lines: US Citzens, Permanent Residents and the other that I don't remember the name, it's for everybody else. There was over 200 people on the "everybody else line" and 2 people on the Permanent Resident Line so, guess which line did I choose for? Yes, right, Permanent Resident one and it worked out beautiful.

- Before he asked me anything I've said: Sir, I'm over K-1 Visa and he open up a smile and said: Congratulations on your engagement, may I have your passport and all those papers that you have with you? After that he took my finger print and a photo, gave me back all the papers and told me to go to the next door where I would have my passport back;

- At the next office I had to wait less than 5 min and they called my name and got all the papers and passport and a few minutes later an officer gave me back my passport with a stamp on it, and said: Welcome to the United States of America, good luck on your new life here.

- After that I went out looking for my luggage which was pretty easy and there is a few employees asking you if you have a connection flight so they point out for you where to go.

- The JFK is pretty big with a lot of stores, cafeterias, great place to spend some time at. I suggest her to get the http://www.gogoinflight.com/ so she can be online her entire flight, as I came from NY to San Francisco, it helped a lot to spend the last 7 hours from a 23 hours trip!

I hope it helps,

Beinha

My life is perfect now, I'm here with my love and everything is great! I feel blessed, thank you God for all your plans, they are way better than I could have ever asked for.

Congratulations, Steve! I'm glad to hear that your fiancee is on her way at last! Safe travels to her :) and looking forward to meeting her at our next Atlanta and area VJ meet-up.

“...Isn't it splendid to think of all the things there are to find out about? It just makes me feel glad to be alive--it's such an interesting world. It wouldn't be half so interesting if we knew all about everything, would it? There'd be no scope for imagination then, would there?”

What airline is she coming in on for the international leg? Delta?

I can tell you about the area for coming in on British Airways....If she needs to change terminals, there is a tram which is fairly clearly marked. The terminal where Nik came in there was a re-check station just outside of customs.
