Obama keeps reporters away from Dalai Lama event

WASHINGTON (AP) - For all of its talk about transparency, the White House shut out the press Thursday when President Barack Obama met with the Dalai Lama.

Instead, Obama met privately with the exiled Tibetan spiritual leader in the Map Room on the ground floor of the White House, far removed from reporters and photographers. Press secretary Robert Gibbs issued only a brief statement after the event, and the White House distributed a single in-house photo of the two leaders.

Typically, when a high-profile foreign dignitary is to meet with the president, photographers and reporters have an opportunity to take pictures and toss a few questions at the president and his guest at the beginning of their Oval Office meeting.

Out with the garbage?

Perhaps this is what the llama requested? Who really cares that much about this guy, really?

Something beyond the material.

Um, and how does this relate to the White House having to give the press access to him on a White House visit regardless of whatever the man himself might have requested?

I was born, raised, and I am still Catholic but I have so much respect for the Dalai Lama, too.

Perhaps he just wants more privacy this time. I'm sure it's no joke to deal with the U.S. media especially after facing the President.

The Dalai Lama says, "Sometimes one creates a dynamic impression by saying something, and sometimes one creates as significant an impression by remaining silent."

Maybe he could try a different brand of fabric softener.

Don't just open your mouth and prove yourself a fool....put it in writing.

It gets harder the more you know. Because the more you find out, the uglier everything seems.

:secret: China

No need to whisper in my ear, I know that China is the elephant in the room. My point is though, that no one complaining pays more than lip service to what he represents spiritually, I mean, bhudism? Yeah, right, that's something American's respect - in general ;)

In his statement today about his recovery from the failings that have impacted his family and career, golfer Tiger Woods vowed a return to the teachings of Buddhism which had guided him since childhood.

Part of his therapeutic quest, Woods said, would be Buddhism, "which my mother taught me at a young age. People probably don't realize it, but I was raised a Buddhist, and I actively practiced my faith from childhood until I drifted away from it in recent years.

"Buddhism teaches that a creation of things outside ourselves causes an unhappy and pointless search for security. It teaches me to stop following every impulse and to learn restraint. Obviously, I lost track of what I was taught."

Did you eat fruit loops for breakfast or something. So Mr Woods calls himself a buddist, what relevance has this as regards the belief of Americans towards buddists in general and the Dali Lama in particular? If Tibet wasn't at odds with China, would political American give two hoots about either of the two entities?
