Hey everyone! I'm new here, and just starting the K1 process... My fiance is originally from Rwanda, but we're both living in Botswana, Africa at the moment. We each have pretty limited internet access, which makes this that much more interesting. I'm sorry if some of these have been asked many times before, but I'm hoping someone out there can help!

1) My fiance has no middle name. Should I put "None?" I'm just afraid they'll think that IS his name.

2) I've heard from other people who have filed that they did a criminal background check for their foreign fiance. I can't find any mention of it on the forms or on VJ. Am I missing something?

3) For proof of meeting, can we send in copies of our individual Botswana resident permits? Will that prove that we both live in the same country?

4) As for addresses, can we put down a PO Box? That's how all mail is delivered in Botswana.

5) If a parent is deceased, how should we handle their "current residence" on the G325a? Leave it blank? Write "deceased?"

6) How specific should we be on our occupations on the G325a's? For example, can I just write Teacher or Coach? Or should I put what he teaches or what he coaches?

...and lastly...

7) My fiance technically has refugee status in Botswana. Will this slow down the process or hinder us in any way? For instance, we don't have his birth certificate or immunization records or any of that...

Thanks for any and all advice!

1. Yes

2. It's not a form, but you will need to submit police certs from countries where he has lived. You can usually get them via the embassy of the specifci country, or the police station in the country he currently lives in.

3. That will help; you can also use photos, bills showing the same address if you live together etc.

4 Not sure, but that should be fine for mailing address (there is another place where it asks for your residential address).

5. I put deceased

6. If it's not too complicated, I'd put what he teaches (French teacher or whatever).

7. That could slow things down, as you willneed to either get those documents somehow, or proof that you cannot. It won't make approval any more or less likely though.

But for the background check & police records- do those get sent in with the I-129F and original paperwork, or do we just have to have them in time for the interview?

This is a valid concern, as "None" is certainly a name in some languages. My preference with many reported positive results is to simply enter ---- in the middle name fields of forms.

Hi,

Just out of curiosity, why don't you marry and go for the CR-1 via direct consular filing (DCF)?

Also, I'm not sure how far ahead in the process you have looked, but you will need to establish "domicile" in the US before he'll be issued a visa (K-1 OR CR-1). It's something you'll want to have considered before too long.

Deceased and teacher/coach are fine. (I put "Engineer")
