Hi guys,

I am assembling our package right now.. and i was just wondering if it is safe to send copies of credit cards as evidence? I'm just very wary to do so because of safety reasons.

Thanks for your input.

Since my wife and I have a joint credit card account, I included front and back side copies of both our credit cards along with a couple copies of the credit card statements spanning 2 years.

I've read posts here over the years where some people choose to black out account numbers (fully or partially). It entirely up to you. I chose not to black anything out as I didn't want to give them a potential reason to send me an RFE.

I get people's paranoia regarding identity theft and fraud, however they are the U.S. Government and frankly they can probably find out this information anyway.

Just my two cents....

I included copies of the front only (the back doesn't show much different )and blanked out everything except the last 4 (why would they RFE you for that?) - as is standard practice when you're on a website and they display your credit card info...for example . It shows the same card number and expiry date with both our names on it...decent evidence. I also subsequently included the bills we receive for that same card as additional evidence.

There's no reason they need your credit card numbers so I seriously doubt blacking them out would generate an RFE. Surely they understand the need to keep such things safe in the event the document gets into the wrong hands. Its likely true that they can get the information if they wanted it anyway, so why take the chance of advertising it on a piece of paper that could get lost?

We blacked ours out - both on the credit card statements and account numbers on bank statements - and it was no problem.

As i said, some people do and some people don't blank stuff out. For those of you concerned about Credit card #s getting into the wrong hands, that would be the least of my worries as generally you protected against fraud on the account.

For those of you really paranoid, the info you supplied on your I-751 is what you really should be worried about (full name, DOB, SS#, address) and there is no blanking that out.

So I could care less about blanking out account numbers. Stealing my CC or bank info is easily fixable, but stealing an identity is not...hence why it is a moot point to me.

True you cannot blank out SSNs, etc. on the I 751 - as they actually need that information for verification. I just don't see the point of opening myself up to having my credit card info stolen if I can avoid it and not hurt my case in any way. But I suppose everyone is different.

How much of a safety hazard it is ? you are enclosing tax returns which has your and your spouses social , you are enclosing bank statements and lot of other personal information , I dont think it matters at all , if someone mis-uses your card you can easily call the credit card company and inform them about it ..

Yes you can. Like I said, I just didn't see the point in having it out there if I didn't have to - and it obviously had no adverse effect on our case, which was the only reason I made the point to begin with (it was mentioned that you probably risked an RFE by not having them on there). But there's no harm in NOT doing it either. It's a personal choice.

I wouldn't worry about the credit cards. Your application contains your SSN, your name, address and date of birth. Make sure to send it priority mail or something guaranteed to keep your mind at ease.

v333k - it is like you respond to threads just to get your post count up or something. If you look at what you posted, that is what has been said before in this thread.

I personally see no need to include photocopies of cards if you're sending bank statements that proves it's a joint account anyway... but like others said, with all the info you're mailing anyway, it makes no difference if you blank it out or not...
