As fas as I understand from Vietnam Embassy, HIV test is not require anymore based on the their docs and also in Vietnam.

My friend got married in Vietnam 2007, all the papework he got done in Vietnam since he stayed 2 months. And there is NO HIV test required at all. I haven't checked with him if his wife was required for HIV test.

A HIV test does not bother me at all, it would only tell me what I already know that I do not have it. Needles and everything like that does not scare or bother me as well. I just really wanted to make sure I have what I need from the USA before I come. I have a certified birth certificate, certified divorce decree, and also a certified note stating there were no records in the last 2 years of any marriage, so I think I have everything and am ready to go. Right now I am counting down the days, only 16 days left and a few hours......

We just had our paperwork for marriage certificate done in November 2009. I dont mean to make you confused but it seems that your paperwork isnt enough. Let me state here what my husband prepared for your reference

* First step:

1. Affidavit of Single Status (download from Vietnam Consulate website). Have it notarized. Remember to write your Occupation in VIETNAMESE, date in Vietnamese format (dd/mm/yyyy), your name in the order like it is in your passport (Last name First name Middle name).

2. Certificate of No Marriage record (from the Vital Statistic of your County, search period is from the date you divorce until the date you make the request)

3. Certified copy of Divorce Decree (from the Courthouse where the divorce took place)

4. 2 Certified copies of Passport (Optional: You can choose to have your passport certifed at People Committee, District level, "Uy Ban Nhan Dan Quan" in Vietnam, I had my husband's passport certified this way).

* Second step: have all 4 documents authenticated at Department of State. This is a must. The Consulate or Embassy in Vietnam just authenticate the documents which are authenticated by Department of State.

* Third step: submit all 4 documents, Marriage Application bilingual form downloaded from Viet Consulate website, Marriage Application form bought in "So Tu Phap" (Justice Department) in Vietnam to Viet Consulate in SF for legalization and translation. But they didnt translate the Divorce Decree of my husband. We had the documents done in the U.S, the fee is $150, plus $20 for rush service in Viet Consulate in SF. The processing time is 3 to 4 business days. Ours was over a week since it was in Thanksgiving week. Our documents are same with yours now.

Another option: if you dont have enough time, you can have 2 steps done in the U.S. Then have all documents authenticated in US Consulate in Vietnam, then have them authenticated in Vietnam Department of Foreign Affair (So Ngoai Vu)

In your post, I see that you dont have the Affidavit of Single Status. You can have it done in the Consulate, then have it authenticated in Vietnam Department of Foreign Affair

It sounds that everything is so complicated but believe me, its much more complicated to deal with Viet Justice Department. Feel free to ask if you're still confused. I recommend you to have all the documents done in the US

Note: For English version documents, you have to have Vietnamese version along with certified copy of that document.

Yeah, I was mainly focused on what documents I needed to get from the United States before I left, I knew there were other papers that had to be or could be done in Vietnam, as always thanks for the advice, all the posts are greatly appreciated. Jerome and Binh
