There may be a way cheaper than USPS, but it it's weighty, they're probably the cheapest. A 10 kg box with USPS is around $50-60. That same box is $500 with DHL.

English please, most of the petitioners don’t speak or write Portuguese and we won’t be able to offer an opinion to properly assist you.

Thanks

Depending on what she is sending, maybe it's worth to send the stuff by ship.

Some Brazilian stores (I mean, most of them) will be able to assist her on this. It's about $100 but you can send a BIG box. It takes about 3 months to arrive in Brazil.

Also, if she sends by regular mail, the customs in BR may charge her family. By ship I think they don't charge anything.

Tell her to call the nearest Brazilian market/store and see how it works. Good luck =)

Hi, I just sent a box to brazil with my baby's belongings, since we are going to spend 1 month there: car seat, diapers and everything he will need. I paid 230.00 for a box of 29". I used a company called Fastway Moving. They ship everything and it will get there in 2, 3 months. Better then sending through regular mail, where they charge you per pound and customs in Brazil open the package and charge you for most of the stuff. Look that company up on their website ( fastwaymoving.com) and see if they have any store near you...

I used normal USPS to send magazines, and to receive stuff from James don't recall the price though, sorry.

But I am writing to tell you this: declare all you are sending in details, with price and all. This is very important so that your package is not taxed by the federal police, since their prices might not meet the real price of the goods you are sending.

I will use what happened to us as an example: James send me and old coat of his to make me cozy in Brazil, along with an old blanket. They were obviously used, but we got a HUGE tax for not declaring the price of them.

So, even if you are sending something "priceless", do a little search, find a price so that it meets a real one, and declare it in the moment you send. What I am calling "declare" is that green paper where you write down what are you sending, how many and the value.

I've seen this company listed in the Brazilian magazines.

I sent a package once to Brazil by ship and I think it took about 3-4 weeks; but, I wasn't in a hurry and had just returned from working in Brazil and was broke so I didn't mind. The box was about the size of a cereal box and it cost me $5. I think it's a good way to go if you don't need the package to be rushed.

other than english (ote) is perfectly acceptable within the regional forums. it's when one is posting in ote outside the regionals that it becomes a problem.

I think your question has already been answered, but I'll give my 2 cents as well.

How much stuff is she sending? You need to be careful not to send TOO much at one time in my opinion because then it looks more suspicious and her family is more likely to be hit with taxes.

For example, my mom for Christmas sent a package with a couple shirts, a purse and a jacket. I had to pay taxes. There was nothing different in that package then in many others that she sent, but this time things were all together and I was hit with a 100 reais fee to receive the package!! Just last week she sent a package with one jacket and two body creams and I had to pay nothing! So be careful not to send too much at one time. Another time she sent a pair of tennis shoes (all alone) and I paid nothing in taxes either.

She always sends the stuff normal USPS mail, and doesn't have to pay a lot. It's not cheap, but it's not too expensive, it's the taxes on this side that really put the things over the edge. Even if they are gifts they can get hit with taxes! So be careful!!

A note about sending things fast track. Documents get here (Brazil) in about 5 days if you send them fast track, big packages (in our experience at least)take the same amount of time if you pay extra for fast track or not, so unless it's documents, don't do it! I've had packages get here (non fast track) in as little as 10 days and as long as 7 weeks...you just never know!
