One would thing the HK-ID would be no longer valid after becoming a US Citizen, China does not recognize dual-citizenship, I believe since HK is now a SAR of China that the same would apply there too.

OUR TIME LINE Please do a timeline it helps us all, thanks.

Is now a US Citizen immigration completed Jan 12, 2012.

HK ID is valid even though you now become a US Citizen. You do not have to change your last name on your HK ID though. If you just enter Hong Kong using the visitors line at the border with your US passport, and your plane tickets have the same name on your passport, you should be fine. I would suggest enter Hong Kong with your passport, and then change your name on your HK ID. Do keep in mind that it cost money to change name on a HK ID. I got married in Hong Kong, and I am also US Citizen, I took my husband's last name and changed my US passport and Social security with my new name, but I keep my HK ID with my maiden name. I am able to change my HK ID to the new smart ID after I got my US citizenship. I am also able to use my HK ID with my maiden name to open a HK Bank account also with my husband.

You DO NOT have to change your name on the HK ID card right away. If you do wish to keep all your documents with the same name, you can definitely do so. Check out this website for more information: http://www.gov.hk/en/residents/immigration...ic/faq_hkic.htm, Q16 - 17

By the way, Hong Kong is not a country, and so, you can be both a Hong Kong citizen and a US Citizen. You can have both US Passport and a HK ID card and both are valid at the same time.
