Hi Im jo, I know a few of the ppl here from other boards Im a member of.

Im from the UK, and am engaged to tariq from morocco. We are considering him coming to the UK on a fiance visa, but I have heard that:

a) it is very difficult to get a fiance visa

B) you must have been a couple for 2 years.

does anyone know if either/both of the above are true?

Id appreciate any advice you have on this.

thanks!

Jo :)

Not sure about UK Fiance Visas, but for the US the requirement is to have 'met in person within the last 2 years.' And yes, depending on the consulate you are going through it can be very difficult to get a fiance visa. We are US going through Morocco...there are many cases being sent back to the US for review after the interview as well as being flat denied.

Are you a US Citizen living in the UK?

While there are some who have found the K-1 fiancee visa to be a bad experience, if you will check the timelines on here you will see that the odds of getting it are much better than getting the K-3 or CR-1 from Morocco. If you are a US Citizen, I would recommend K-1 but that's just my opinion.

What you say about the timelines and comparing good K1 experiences vs bad experiences on VJ is true. However, the representation on VJ of the number of K1 cases actually going through Morocco only scratches the surface.

There are more K1 visas denied in Morocco than you hear of here on VJ...my fiance and I have been in contact with many who are not part of this web site since our petition was sent back to the US. While all details of cases are different...circumstances of all relationships are different, to make a real educated decision regarding the type of visa you should choose I have quickly learned to look outside of the box.

I just wish I knew then what I know now.

Also what plays a huge role in this regarding Morocco is the consular officer assigned to your case...I firmly believe our interview and petition would not have gone the way it did if we had gotten someone other than the woman assigned to our case. I am certainly not implying non-validity of anyone's relationship, but like I said, we have more proof of a valid relationship than many of the K1 visas approved in Morocco...which makes me firmly believe if we had a different interviewer...he would be flying home to be with me here in the US and not me flying to Morocco to be with him.

In regards to marriage visas, yes there are many still sent back for review and denied going through Morocco. I think right now all of the K1/K3 visas are difficult to get going through Morocco due to the rising surge of petitions in the past couple of years...many have been proven to be fraudulent.

There is a similar issue with Nigeria...it is very difficult to get any fiance/spouse visa going through Nigeria due to marriage fraud. It is very sad for those of us who actually have a real relationship to have to pay for the fraudulent acts of those whose real intentions are the ever elusive green card.

In regards to my case...being the validity of the relationship which is in question. Getting married and filing for a K3 visa seems to be our best option. Now, we will wait to see what happens in our case, we are not denied as of yet. If denied I am on the first plane to Morocco to get married and we will file for the K3/CR1 visa. We are extremely determined to be together. In the event that is also denied...I will happily denounce this country and move to Morocco so we can be together as we deserve.

They are looking to get a fiance Visa to the UK. they info on VJ is not going to help

But...if they are a USC living in the UK and filing for a K1 visa connected with Morocco then it can definitely help. Even if this is a UK petition going through Morocco, having as much information as possible is going to be helpful regardless of the country or origin.
