I'd sorta prefer a lower cavity / appendage search, myself, to see wot I was carrying in me undies. Gets me pumped up (no pun intended) for a nice Happy Ending.. (you passed !! get along wit ye, ya silly merican man !! )

Washington (CNN) -- To the list of instructions you hear at airport checkpoints, add this: "Put your palms forward, please."

The Transportation Security Administration soon will begin randomly swabbing passengers' hands at checkpoints and airport gates to test them for traces of explosives.

Previously, screeners swabbed some carry-on luggage and other objects as they searched for the needle in the security haystack -- components of terrorist bombs in an endless stream of luggage.

But after the Christmas Day attempted bombing of Northwest Flight 253 over Detroit, Michigan, the TSA began a program of swabbing passengers' hands, which could be contaminated by explosive materials, experts say. The TSA will greatly expand the swabbing in the coming weeks, the agency said.

"The point is to make sure that the air environment is a safe environment," Homeland Security Secretary Janet Napolitano told CNN. "We know that al Qaeda [and other] terrorists continue to think of aviation as a way to attack the United States. One way we keep it safe is by new technology [and] random use of different types of technology."

Most of these things are just for show - its doubtful they'll catch anyone like this. The only sure way is to conduct a full search of every, single passenger and their luggage.

Personally I don't get the fascination with trying to destroy airplanes. The Madrid bombing showed that a terrorist could create massive carnage with little effort or planning. Anyone who has commuted to work in a big city knows how easy it would be for someone to blow up crowded commuter trains and train stations. Virtually no security whatsoever on trains.

Crikey - there's a machine to read the swab. Looks like a 'sample analyzer' of some sort. Some kind o computer thingie.

I wonder how much more messy the whole 'thing' is gonna be when I come by, wearing my satin travelling gloves? Sometimes, I don't wash my hands so well, when I've worn them, in the past - so there COULD be traces of horse-sh|t inside the gloves. Oy-veh - I really need to clean a bit.. yaaaak...

(I handle dried, aged, horse-sh|t every day, doing seedpots at my micro-farm, mucking about in the greenhouse, working with new types of home-made liquid organic fertilizer also )

I thought it was 'transportee prisoners from the British Empire'.

Not Europeans. The Dutch 'found it', prior to the transportation, though. If yer 'one of those' - then hei - no need to get the teefs fixxored, ya?

Most PPL on the continent would scream and denounce 'Britain' ever being part of Europe.

Thank God these checks are random. Can you imagine if every single person in the security queue at the airport had to get swab'd ? yaaaaaaaak !
