I've passed the biggest hurdle as the Service Center has approved my K1 petition. This was a bigger deal for me because it is my 3rd K1 in 10 years. They approved my request for waiver of IMBRA limits! Now the K1 timeline says:

Two weeks after you receive the NOA2 you can contact the NVC to see if they have received your approved I-129F. You can contact them at 603 334-0700.

I've never done that before. Is this routine for the NVC? Will they know the status of my case? I ask because it's a government bureaucracy after all.

What must we do now or after she arrives so that she can work in the US? I see that she can apply for a SSN immediately, but does that give her the right to work?

Thanks

Steve

Contact NVC and actually speak to a live person. They are very helpful and nice and can tell you the status of your application. Waiting 2 weeks before doing so is good advice.

No, an SSN does not authorize her to work. She will need an employment authorization document, which can be applied for at the same time you adjust her status. Although an SSN is required for her to work, it does not authorize her to work

Good luck.

Thanks for the info.

I completed a timeline for my profile, but it doesn't appear on my post. Can someone tell me what I must do to get it to appear?

Hey Steve -

For K-1's - the casefile goes to NVC , and usually is sent on to the Consulate/Embassy IV's unit for further processing.

At some point, there are other materials yer lass will have to submit directly to the IV unit in Columbia.

USUALLY, you can call NVC, get a Human then get the NVC case #. They can also tell you WHEN it left NVC. If the casefile needs additional processing at NVC, a NVC Tele-Operator can tell you that, also (the magic question for them, is, 'Is my case under AP? ' ) .

After it's left NVC, you can call the DOS Hotline, get a Human and inquire about case status. DOS will know everything , sometimes is delayed 24 hours, but they will know.

Sometimes my language usage seems confusing - please feel free to 'read it twice', just in case !
Ya know, you can find the answer to your question with the advanced search tool, when using a PC? Ditch the handphone, come back later on a PC, and try again.

My case was approved by the Service Center. Why would it be under additional processing at the NVC? I thought that was just a relay point onto the embassy.

So what is DOS? Do they tell me when it arrives at the Bogota embassy?

Thanks

Steve- namechecks occur at each and every stage of this process - here's a lengthy explanation (click the link, have a read?)

http://www.usaimmigrationattorney.com/Secu...tiveReview.html

DOS = Department of State. The tele-operators at DOS will know ALL about your casefile, once it's left NVC. They can see 'data' that the Consulate sees, but usually in 'read-only' mode, and in some instances, a day's delay. To be 'received' at Bogota, from a DOS standpoint, USUALLY means the casefile has been opened, and stuff done for data entry at the Embassy. There's MORE steps to it, of course. Click on yer timeline, you can see the OTHER steps past 'NVC left'.

The DOS hotline number is in my profile under 'story' - have a look?

Thanks for that link. I have used Gary Bala's services in the past. He raises an interesting point about a "False Hit" problem. This occurs when the applicant has a name identical or similar to someone in the criminal database. Additional checking is then required to clear that person and this slows down the process significantly. I hope that doesn't happen in our case.
