I think the funniest thing i've seen so far is that russian figure skater who lost the gold declaring that rather than having won the silver, he has won a 'Platinum Medal'.

Yeah, saw a pic of his website last night, with the caption "what planet is this dude on?"

After seeing how the brackets are gonna work out, I think the u.s. victory was far more important now. Sucks that Canada has to face Russia in the quarterfinals, I would love to see something of that magnitude with a medal on the line.

Don't forget that we still have to win today's game against Germany to GET to that quarterfinal against Russia!

I'm a little worried about how a lot of commentators etc. are totally overlooking this afternoon's qualification game, automatically assuming that Canada will beat Germany. Obviously it's LIKELY that that's going to happen...but we (and more importantly, the players) can't just assume that's going to be the outcome. Anything can happen in a single game...

Well he could be some sort of alien who only learned of human culture through t.v.. Just look at his hair, I think he only got 1970's and 1980's t.v. on his planet.

The Russian ice dancers last night looked downright PISSED to have received bronze. The Americans, who got Silver looked satisfied and content with their medals, and were clearly dealing quite well with coming second. The Russians, however, didn't carry their flag etc., and looked particularly galled.

I don't like sore losers, no matter what nationality.

Figure skating has been under an increased level of scrutiny in the last 8 years or so, and rightly so. The russians had all these backroom deals to trade votes to ensure gold for their skaters and in turn those who cooperated would get some pittance. I don't really consider figure skating a sport though. If the outcome is determined by a judge and not a time or a goal/score, then it is an exhibition. The russians were complaining that plushenko should have won because he did a quad something or other while the american did not. Nevermind that the rest of his routine was significantly lower than the american. The sport is figure skating, not Quad Jumping.

Alright! So now that we've got Germany out of the way, the BIG game is nigh -- Russia vs. Canada, 7:30 EST, 4:30 PST. Luongo has already been named as the starter (sorry Allie :P), and this should be one heck of a game... Explosive Russian offense, strong defense and one of the most consistent goaltenders in the game (Nabokov has always been one of my favorites, dating back into the '90's).

I give 60-40 odds to Russia in this one, but I hope I'm wrong!

As for the other games, the U.S. should beat Switzerland (noon PST, btw...), and sadly, Sweden probably has the edge on Slovakia. I really, really want Slovakia to win though. As much as I like Forsberg and (obviously) the Sedins, I still think Slovakia has been criminally underrated.

Should be an exciting, nail-biting night of hockey!

OMG...

It's not MOOOOOOO...it's LUUUUUUU!

I can understand how most people wouldn't understand though...but it's always been our salute for Luongo in Vancouver. It was actually borrowed from when Lui Passaglia was the kicker for the B.C. Lions in the CFL...they used to always chant "LUUUUUUUU!" when he was coming out to kick a field goal or something. It's just been inherited by Luongo.

Sucks that I'm at work when both of these games start. I'm going to try to get them to turn the game on at work. Sadly, I have been unable to find a radio station that is broadcasting the Canada vs. Russia game so I can listen to it on my commute home. I despise the Swedish team for one reason, and one reason only..... Peter Forsberg. My dislike for him is only surpassed by my hatred for Patrick Roy. I also really like Palffy. I used to have one of his sweaters. Unfortunately, he had a falling out coupled with some head injuries when he was on the Kings.

Yeah, Palffy is so great, isn't he? He was one of the most underrated snipers in the league...his retirement from the NHL was met with such little fanfare! That's one of the reasons I really want Slovakia to beat Sweden. That, and they really deserve some credit. Czech Republic gets all the hockey attention, when really, the other half of the former country of Czechoslovakia has nearly equal talent...the Hossas, Gaborik, Chara, Halak, Palffy, Demitra...

Also, if Canada wins today and Slovakia wins, then Canada would face them in the semis.

Typical...NBC Broadcasting getting something else wrong. NBC: "For the folks at home, the crowd isn't booing, they are saying Mooooo everytime Luongo touches the puck"

I was like "#######? Why would they say Moo? But, oh well, must be a Vancouver thing"

Haha Hard to believe it's so easy to hate two of the best players in league history yet love Palffy when his work ethic was questioned so often  (just razzing you lol, Palffy could've been so much better but I always read that his dedication was up there with Yashin's ;) )

I can't wait for the games today. I got home from work yesterday and the ONLY thing that got me through my Plyo workout was knowing I got to watch a slew of hockey games afterwards without guilt from skipping it :)

My wife has been back since June 5, 2007. Now we're just livin' man, L I V I N :)

Yeah, I heard the rumors about palffy being a lazy git, but at least he wasn't a douche like Forsberg. I used to always say that Forsberg and Lindros were two of the biggest douches (along wtih Roy) to ever play the game. But as it turns out, my wife is actually related to Lindros, so I guess I can't say that anymore.
