Getting a live person via the USCIS telephone #

Hey there,

Its been 4 months since I filed for my parents and I wanted to call USCIS to find out what is going on but I can never get through to a live person.

I am calling 1-800-375-5283, then pressing 1 for English but then the menu never gives an option for an operator. Does anyone know what number I should press to actually speak to a live person?

I know, but it seems that there are so many people that have been approved in less than 4 months.

If you really manage to speak with a person (it will be a person that's alive, as dead ones can't talk), it will be a drone. Human drones are certain kind of people who like to make a living by doing as little as possible while getting a guaranteed pay check from Uncle Sam. As drones lack incentive to perform (as it is not rewarded), they often work at DMV offices or at the USCIS. There is no way you can get any information of value from a drone. I once managed to speak to an Immigration Officer, who upon my inquiry, read from a piece of paper that processing times are about a year, at a time when the average time was about 4 months. He was unresponsive to any questions, just asked me to wait an entire year before inquiring again. Don't bother calling and trying to speak with a drone. Seriously.

Although occasionally you get someone with a heart. I spoke with a VERY sweet lady at USCIS just last week.

Unfortunately, she prefaced this with "They make me read this to you" and she then read to me, verbatim, from the I-130 Notice of Action. They have no power to do anything, at least, not until your petition is past their normal processing time.

But, if you still want to speak to them - I got through by simply pressing "0".

Good luck. We have 13 more days to go before we're "out of normal processing time" and you can bet, I plan on calling the moment it is...

Call 1-800-375-5283. Hit 1 for English. Then hit 2 to check on status of case. Then hit 3 to say you lost your case number and it will forward you to an agent. They will not answer questions about your case unless you are the applicant, regardless of you being the petitioner. They answered the phone within 10 seconds when I called.
