This is my first question.. This process is so nerve racking as there is so much as stake.. Here is my issue.

My future wife's name is Oksana..

Her Passort has her name as Oksana and also Oxana.

When I received my NOA1 they had it correct as Oksana.

But for some crazy reason i thought they had gotten it wrong so I called USCIS to have it changed to O-X-S-A-N-A.. with an X as oppsoed to the K. This turned out to be incorrect as it is a mistaken combination of both names.. ahhh, i was so mad i made this mistake.

Within an hour of my first call I realized I had made this mistake, and called back to cancel my request. I was told I cannot cancel it until i recieved an amended NOA1 in a few weeks..

About a week later I did get a letter from USCIS that stated there was no reason to change the name as the passport had it correct..

So i forgot about it, and thought that was it.

But today i received my copy of the NOA2 approval, and it is in the name of O X S A N A, the mistaken combination of both names..

Ahh, is this going to be ok?

What should I do as it now is in the NSC.

thanks

Mark

Her name on her visa should be identical to her english name in her passport, so you have to call them and say they wrote the name wrong.

It has to be "OXANA" in English.

You already have the NOA2? Then don't do anything. It has passed out of the USCIS and into the state department. They will get it right.

Just gotta make sure when it gets to visa time, there's no discrepancies. It's not going to be in NVC for long, so nothing can be done there. At the embassy level, they will use whatever name is used on the forms later. Can always tell CO the name was spelled wrong.

To be quite honest, I've had that problem plaguing me here for 10 years. My passport said: Olexandr. My SS says: ALexandr. My Greencard and US passport say Aleksandr (and all other IDs were issued on that name because of GC). So I jsut let it go at this point.

It's just a first name, so it's not as bad

I would file some kind of official letter explaining the discrepancy in the hopes that it'll be correct on the final visa. If the matter isn't resolved prior, I'd also have Oksana bring it up during her interview.

(As an aside, I think they intentionally screw up the transliterations of some names. Maybe its how they get their yucks. My wife is Ирина, but somehow Erena ended up on her passport. Go figure.)

Point made.......it's only the first name; personally I wouldn't sweat it.

I wouldn't worry about it at all. The only thing you're going to do by trying to correct it at this point is delay the case. As said above her visa will match her passport so as long as it does, she'll be able to travel. Once she's here you can correct it to whatever she wants. In truth, it can be quite a headache to correct the smallest things like that so she may be better off just leaving it the way it is and then spelling it however she wants once she's here.

My tip for all this is don't try to correct it at every level. Leave it alone and then correct it when it's all said and done. (Green Card.)

I've been told to F OFF by a SS office many times, when I went in trying to get my name right on my SS card. They basically wouln't even understand why I care. It's just a first name, the number is correct, so they would politely (and other times not so) would tell me to just let it go hehe.

So to OP: do not worry about it. this stuff is pretty common with all the weird misspellings of slavic first names

The only thing that really matters is the numbers match up.

I am very happy that I listened to the wise floks on this board.

Becasue of you I did not try to get a corrected NOA2 back at USCIS- that might have taken weeks.

I just left it alone.

When I called NSC today to see if that had my packet and in what name, they said, "Oh yea we saw that her name was incorrect on the NOA2 Notice, but we fixed it, and have her name correct as Oksana not Oxsana".

They told me that all futrue paperwork will have it correct from this point forth also.

Horra for visajourney and the good advice..
