As I mentioned in the other thread, I want to lose some weight before my wedding in January. I don't have too much, so I think 30lbs is definitely the max for me. I say 30lbs as a rough idea, because I've been too scared to even have my first weigh-in lol. Last time I checked I was around the same weight as my husband, who is a very slim 5'10". I'm a not-so-slim 5'8". I carry most of my weight in my upper body, which I hear should make it easier to lose, so here's hoping! I'm going to add my weight loss updates to my signature, along with my visa journey progress.

Long-term goal: Lose 30lbs by 2011

Short-term goal: Lose 10lbs by April 2010

Current: 0lbs lost

I'm at 160 pounds, and while that's not "huge" it's the heaviest I've ever been. I gained 10-15 pounds of it since last fall, and the other 20 creeped in over the last 5 years. I miss feeling healthy, lean, and fitting into my clothes.

Hi Aubrey, Welcome! You sound so similar to me! I topped out at 165 and have lost 5-6lbs at 160 right now and want to get to 140lb. I would love to get back to 135lb but don't think that's realistic for me. If I can get between 140-145 I'll be happy.

My husband and I have been struggling financially, so we can't afford a lot of the healthier foods

Something is just wrong with our society when healthy foods aren't the affordable foods.

I weighed in at 380lb about 7 years ago. I lost 180lb in about a year and a half. I've managed to keep it all off but I go up and down from 205-245 it seems. Right now I am in the middle at 225-230 and I have been sitting here for awhile. I lost 20lb from August to November, so that helps.

I want to lose another 20 over the next while. But my main goal is being healthy and being able to go on my hikes, kayak and scuba dive with no issues. I don't need to be in Marine combat shape but I am tired of being out of shape.

Where can i buy or get P-90X. I need to lose at least 80 lbs. Please let me know how I can get P-90X.

Just a warning, if you're going to do the program you've got to be 100% committed to it. Requires a heck of a lot of discipline and determination to do but works wonders if you stick with it, good luck!

i want to lose about 50 lbs altogether.. i think I looked my best around 160 lbs... but for now I would be happy to be below 200 by the summer... which is about another 10 lbs or so

I gained about 45lbs in the first 8 or 9 months that I lived here.. but then I didn't really gain anything after that but my weight did fluctuate a lot.. but never over that initial 45lbs

:) Congrats! I eat about 6-7 times a day and as long as I'm under the caloric total that I need to be under per day I will have a nice protein shake after dinner. You can find drinks with 20-30 grams of protein and only 15-20 grams of carbs which won't hurt ya if you've eaten clean all day :) Just an idea anyway Lol

Maybe you're not satisfied enough from dinner? I noticed when I upped my protein and eliminated carbs from dinner, I was never hungry again until the morning.

Tonight I'm going to hit the gym... I need to get back into the habit.

I'm usually never satisfied enough with dinner, I late night snack ALOT.

I really need to cut back.

I did yesterday, only ate like 4 of these tiny gummy snack things and drank like 4 cups of water instead.

I need to start chewing gum to keep my mouth busy, I seem to want to snack when it isn't.

Me too! I need my bag of mico popcorn or pretzels at night or I'm starving. I tried the veggie thing but of course I have to dip them. Maybe I should try fruit instead?

I like this thread! It's nice to see so many people wanting to improve their health!

I'm currently at 190lbs. I gained 20lbs over the past year with the stress of moving here and unfamiliar surroundings/routines, etc. Then I went to the doctor the other day who made me do some blood tests, and she says I'm borderline low thyroid and that could be the cause of some of the weight gain, and most definitely the reason why it's been hard to take it off. I'm not taking medication, she wants me to test again in another month (she thinks I'm low because my body was fighting off a virus, but I suspect otherwise). In the meantime, I have decided to put myself on a low GI diet and this is the first week for me. So far it's going well. My husband and step-children are actually vegetarians so it's a little bit harder in that respect (actually we've been more like bread, pasta and cheese-tarians) but I don't feel deprived so far. I'd be happy at 155-160lbs (I'm 5'6").

My goals:

Short term: 10lbs by June

Long term: 30lbs by December

What do you guys eat during the day?

And, how much water do you drink?

I ask these questions because I think it oculd be related to 2 things in my experience.

1. Eating too much refined sugar, white bread, pasta, pizza, candy, pop, juice. All of that stuff only satifies for a short period of time and then makes us starving again. When I eat pasta for dinner, I'm almost always hungry later on. If I just eat meat, vegetables and some sort of whole wheat carb like brown rice, quinoa or even just a slice of whole wheat bread... I'm usually fine later.

2. We are often more thirsty than hungry, but our bodies feel hungry. Test: when you feel hungry, drink a glass of water.. if you can feel the water go down and sometimes even hit your tummy... that means you really are hungry. If you feel less hungry once you drink water and can't feel it go down... then you were more than likely dehydrated.

My eating after dinner is purely a habbit thing. Like last night, my favourite show was on TV so I made a bowl of popcorn to eat while I watched it.

I think it is better if you let yourself indulge once in awhile... if you try to go cold turkey on your favourite snacks etc that is where you have issues because then you start thinking about it and then more then likely you will overindulge...

like for me I will on occasion have a bag of microwave popcorn all to myself.. but I just don't make a habit of doing it every day.. maybe once a month..
