What I dont' get about food that is good for you is why can't they make it taste better. They have invented alcoholic drinks that give you the desired effect, but dont' taste like a cup full of petrol. Why can't they apply that same ingenuity towards culinary exploits? Come on, brussel sprouts are a form of torture.

Lol My wife cooks for me and it's soooo good, one of the biggest things I'm thankful for haha. Now the thing I don't understand is why healthy food costs so much more than the crappy food, really gets to me. Obviously the reasons are processing is cheaper and everything but there should be a tax on garbage food just like there is on smoking and stuff, or at the very least give credits to companies that produce "clean" foods. I hate spending $100 - $150 a week on groceries for just my wife and I a friggin week lol

My wife has been back since June 5, 2007. Now we're just livin' man, L I V I N :)

i did post this on the "What's for dinner" thread but I figured I would post it here too because I remember a few of you saying you wanted to start using your crock pots...

this is super simple and yummy recipe.. the chicken comes out nice and tender and yummy!!

take a couple of chicken thighs (I usually take the skin off), I use about 4 and place them in the crock pot and then dump your favourite salsa over top.. and then cook it on low for about 4 hours... you could do this with chicken breast too but then I would only cook it for about 2 hours on low

Wow, this thread went from positive and helpful to disgusting and awful in less than 24 hours. Showing pictures of unhealthy foods and disgusting pictures of meats is NOT support for weight loss.

:ot2: Please? Pretty please? It was bad enough to have unfortunately walked down the candy isle at the store today and have to pull myself away wanting some.

It's all a marketing ploy. I can guess that it is a bit more costly to produce healthier foods, but I seriously doubt that it is proportionate to the end cost that they charge the consumer. Just look at how they market and sell "For Women" products. They will take a product, and add calcium, or some other nutrient which costs virtually nothing to do, change the packaging to focus on the new added features for women, and voila, justification to charge 20% more for a product that cost roughly the same as the general population version of the product. I read an article in the telegraph a while back about a morbidly obese family who blamed their condition on their economic standing. They felt that they were so obese because they could only afford to buy things like hot pockets et al. Now, I don't wholeheartedly believe this, I do think that there is an element of truth to it. I think more people would eat healthier if the cost of it wasn't so much higher. The cost, and Patrick Roy are why there are so many obese people in this country.

Mmm, chocolate.

It's okay to have if I only have one piece!

That has always been my problem.... impulse control. It is easier to say no at the market than it is to say I will only have one scoop of ice cream when we are at home.

Oh yeah I know that feeling.

I tell myself to only have so much and I end up eating waaaaaay more than I wanted.

It seems to be mood based for me sometimes. When I'm all happy and fine I'll sometimes say yes to stuff at the grocery store, but if I'm all angry I'll say no to everything.

I've been like that over the muffins at costco. I keep telling my husband they aren't junk food, but they are!

For me, it's not a matter of moods, because I always overindulge in things I like

Everything in moderation my dears! Just factor the chocolate in to the rest of your day. lol

Also, I had wanted to mention before this thread barfed all over itself... LOL... that spark does have a good report at the end of the day when you're done tracking your food. They'll give you pie charts on where the %s are coming from for fat/carbs/protein, and what the recommended intake is. :) There are also charts that can track several various nutrients, like sodium, calcium, iron... and they give you recommended amount and can tell you if you're getting enough or not, and the benefits of each.

It's neat. :)

btw... i just wanted to add, the worst part of the poutine thing is that there are NO places around here that serve it. :(

Awww, me too darkchilde :( Hopefully the stress decreases for us both soon!

It's been a struggle for me to exercise. This semester, hubby is taking 4 challenging courses and is doing a lot more homework than last semester. So, it seems like all I do lately is go to work, pick up the little boy, come home, cook clean play with him and then go to sleep. I've been trying to take Declan on playdates during the weekends so hubby can have the house to study .... but it means I get no gym time :( I think I need to just get my azz out of bed earlier and go before work.

Aww Autumnchik thats tough! Its really hard to make time for yourself when you are the primary person to care for things while your SO is pursuing school, etc. And when you do find time, you prefer to do something relaxing and for yourself! :( Maybe you can set just one day for you to ensure you do some work out and for now that would have to be enough! Good luck! I too am struggling to get my butt in the gym! :(

Just a suggestion, if you can afford it maybe you should look into getting some dumbbells/resistance bands for your house. When I had a gym membership I always went directly after work and tried to bust it out there but I've noticed after getting all the weights and stuff at home I have MUCH better workouts. There's something about being able to relax in your own environment and push yourself without having to worry about people looking at you or needing to talk about proper form that helped me a ton Lol. Good luck to everyone!

Agreed! While in school, I had access to the gym for free, but never really made it. So what I did was invest on a good pair of running shoes, some outdoor running gear and an iPod shuffle and would do short runs during the week for cardio. Unless it rained or snowed, I had no excuse! And I could choose to run a short distance only and be back at home in half hour or so if I didnt have much time :)
