My fiance is arriving here soon from Brazil. From what I've read, she will need to get an International Driver's Permit from her home country to be able to drive here (along with her foreign driver's license). Does anyone know where to get this in Brazil?

Thanks,

Drew

Tell your fiance to go to "Detran" in her city (or www.detran.com). The expiration date will be the same as the Brazilian DL. The prices depend on what state she lives.

Good luck!

You may like to check with http://www.dds.ga.gov/drivers/DLdata.aspx?...71440&ty=dl if it's really necessary.

Here in California you don't need a International Drivers License, you can drive with your valid Brazilian License.

BUT it ends when your I-94 expires and for a K-1 Visa it goes for only 90 days.

After that, you must apply for a California Drivers License which requires you to have a Social Security Card and your Permanent Resident Card or your Employment Authorization Card (you must have your Adjustment of Status going on.)

My life is perfect now, I'm here with my love and everything is great! I feel blessed, thank you God for all your plans, they are way better than I could have ever asked for.

She must contact the DETRAN of her state and verify which documentations and what DUDA to pay for. I got mine in Rio and after paying the DUDA I went straight to the DETRAN main building in downtown Rio and the PID was ready the next day.

Some places might take longer, especially if she applies in her local office when it's not the capital.

In most cases the PID (Permissão Internacional para Dirigir) is only valid for a couple of months even if it says otherwise on the document, as most states allow you to drive with it until you get the state's driver's license (and 2 months is supposed to be enough time). Here in PR I ended up spending 3 years with my PID and only now got my PR Learner's Permit, since my PID expired.

P.S. The PID's validity is the same as the driver's license, so if hers expires soon, her PID will have a very short validity as well.

International Driver License usage/privilege may vary from State to State. I have done a lot of research as I had my fiancée/wife to obtain hers. In New York, an IL is valid for a year and can't be exchange for a New York License, not like Canada and some times Germany. In most states, The Department of Motor Vehicle will allow you to use your Brazilian DL for the length of your visa as long as you have a formal and authorize translation [of your DL] and Records otherwise you will be subject to fines/penalties.

One More Thing very few states may allow the conversion international license to their Local State License, you may want to look into your local DMV to confirm if this applies there.

** Above information may vary from State to State, Contact your local DMV for accurate information.

In California, the international driver license is worth as much as used toilet paper. What the cop wants to see is the original driver license. International driving permits can be obtained for very little money from various printing services, that's why.

There is no room in this country for hyphenated Americanism. When I refer to hyphenated Americans, I do not refer to naturalized Americans. Some of the very best Americans I have ever known were naturalized Americans, Americans born abroad. But a hyphenated American is not an American at all . . . . The one absolutely certain way of bringing this nation to ruin, of preventing all possibility of its continuing to be a nation at all, would be to permit it to become a tangle of squabbling nationalities, an intricate knot of German-Americans, Irish-Americans, English-Americans, French-Americans, Scandinavian-Americans or Italian-Americans, each preserving its separate nationality, each at heart feeling more sympathy with Europeans of that nationality, than with the other citizens of the American Republic . . . . There is no such thing as a hyphenated American who is a good American. The only man who is a good American is the man who is an American and nothing else.
