Ehh...

Hammock, safety net; what's the difference?

Well in this case the difference is between insuring people are not starving and.... giving them so much food they are wasteful or overweight.

There are people who have circumstances which would leave them with not enough food to eat, those are the people who should be helped... but not helped to the point where they are actually spending more than the average budget minded shopper would.

How will these people ever learn how to shop on a budget if their monthly allotment is in excess what most people on a budget would spend? ( three people $526 per month)

I'd still like to see you feed a family of 3 for $265.

To be honest, I don't keep track of my food bill all that well but I can tell you, I get 95% of my meat and 50% of the produce is from the "reduced 4 quick sale" bin.

We use some off-brands but never use coupons.

I would bet my monthly food bill is not over $300.

I'm just wondering why people on Food stamps don't have to contribute a dime to their own food bill, why does every one pay to feed them but... them?

If I could, I would pass a new rule, "where available, generic brand items must be selected".

If they are good enough for the people who are paying for their food stamps it's should be good enough for the folks GETTING food stamps.

Next new rule,"No soft drinks or salty snack foods."

Give me a minute, I will think of some more.

Why do you think so many hard working Americans are forced to be budget minded? I have never heard of anyone working full-time in Aus yet having to work two or three jobs to make ends meet; not even a cashier. It's a bloody disgrace that people like teachers, nurses, ambulance workers, the police and so on are forced to live bellow the poverty line; all while the mega wealthy pillage this country dry; all while we provide the military with a blank check. Why would anyone in their right mind support that?

I think I've already discussed this on another thread... but one other thing that I dont get is the ones that spend $200-$300 with FStamps & buy steaks, and expensive crab legs ect ect... then when the kid comes up with yogurt or something they get turned down... Or when the parents total after spending $200 on FS is like $8.95 and they freak out, "Why's my total $8.95 and then say Take that item off I dont want to buy it. Dont want to pay $8.95 of their own cash??? Ridiculous!

Awwe By we do this over and over.

Cashier can't afford a house in AU.

So I guess if you want to live the "big life"... without a home of your own, go to AU, it's perfect!

I have an engineering background, therefore, when there is a problem, we fix it. I don't sit on it an ponder it.

Uh-huh. Yeah. Sure.

People are free to do as they please but they certainly should not be doing so on my dime. Furthermore, when others have to suffer because of someone's negligent choices, they should be forced to pay for the consequences of their actions too. Too many people get to make bad choices in life, only to have everyone else pay and suffer for it - time this changes. For example, if a kid is screwed up by their parents and ends up becoming a serial killer, their parents should have their azz dragged to prison too.

PS Never liked French..

Someone who has a baby at the age of 11 isn't going to pay for the consequences of their actions? Do you think the parents won't?

You need to look beyond your own emotional hysteria.

Prison doesn't keep people from reproducing, as I'm sure you're aware. The clowns will multiply behind bars. In fact, they'll spread their clown genes to others and create a new clown society...all subsisting on your dime. At some point, a few of the clowns will be released and breed with those on the outside, and on and on. Look what you'd be responsible for.

Somewhere in this engineer's assessment of the solution is a fundamental misunderstanding of the problem ;)

I really don't get how welfare has anything to do with this situation.. I am sure right now the parents are paying for the child and the baby.. nowhere in the article does it suggest otherwise...

unless we are suggesting that only people on welfare would let their child get pregnant..

Lets get real, sure there is no mention of this child being supported by the tax payer but does anyone really believe this will not be the case, in one form or another?

If one were to only consider "Whats best for the child", they would place this child with an adoptive family. IMHO
