From what I have been able to research, letters will get to a US address faster if they even get to the Mexican address at all. I don't think we got that letter you just described, just Packets 3 and 4 with case number then interview date.

I didn't go back to the US until I had a case number in Ciudad Juarez, so actually, they told me when I called that they didn't have my US address on file, only the Mexican. The more you stay on top of things and don't depend on the Mexican mail, the faster things can go. Have fun in Cozumel :)

May 9, 2010 - I emailed them using the inquiry form asking for my case number

May 17, 2010 - received case number and link to Packet 3 by email

May 18, 2010 - sent Packet 3 to Ciudad Juarez

I agree that US mail is more reliable than Mexican mail - especially Cozumel! But I thought I was keeping on top of things by advising MY address change. Now I guess I'll just have to get someone to fax me the information to Cozumel if it shows up here in the US after I have left.

Good luck next week!

Hi ladies,

Those of you who have already sent in Packet 3 and are awaiting interview dates or already have dates, pls help.

What do I do with the case number we were assigned? I mean where do I physically put in my documents? Also, do we have Alien Registration numbers for our hubbies or is that the case number?

Hi

Since my Packet 3 never got to us and we printed all the forms off the internet, I went ahead and wrote my husband's case number on the top of all the documents I mailed. As far as Alien Reg -- I left that blank since he doesn't have one. Hope that helps!

Please help!!!

I'm getting ready to send in my Packet 3, but I have a LOT of questions:

1. What all do I need to include in the packet?

2. When I downloaded the I-230 form, it came with both parts I and II. Am I supposed to send in both parts now?

3. I send both the I-230 and I-864 UNSIGNED, right??

4. Am I supposed to send the tax documents with the I-864, or just take them to the interview?

5. We don't have to get a police report, correct?

6. What about the military record??? My husband was never enlisted. Does he need some sort of official letter stating he was never in the military?

7. On the I-864, I filed US income taxes last year because my sister works for the IRS and she told me that even if its income in another country I have to report it to the USA. Of course I didn't pay any taxes on it, but am I supposed to report that on the I-864 where it asks for 2009 income as reported on the income tax forms, or should I put 0 since it doesn't count as income we can use (since once we move to the USA I won't have that income anymore)?

8. Is there any other advice anyone can give me?

I'm so worried I'm forgetting something or will send in the documents incorrectly filled out.

Thanks in advance!!

I'm not ahead of you in the game, but I'll try to answer the ones I already know.

1. You need the I-864, the DS-230, any documents involved with tax filings, to show assets, and/or to show domicile

2. I'm going to send in both parts but tell my hubby to take another set with him to the interview just in case.

3. I believe the I-864 and DS-230 Part I has to be signed. The Ds-230 Part 2 must be done in front of the consular officer.

4. I think the tax documents must be sent in with the I-864.

5. I think you can get a carta de no antecedentes, but not sure if it's needed. I would get one just in case.

6. My husband was never enlisted either. I think on the checklist it says only those applicable or no?

7. Here I'm lost. In fact, if you can ask your sis for me that would be great. I've been in Mexico for the past 3 filing years (2007, 2008, 2009). In 2007 and half of 2008, I made below the minimum income so what I (and my DAd) understood was I didn't have to file. In the other half of 2008 and all of 2009, I wasn't working because I had a baby so I definitely had no income to file. Is this correct? Could you check for me? I don't want to get a REquest for Evidence and delay our process longer.

Ok Thanks Jaremedios. I'll ask my sister. I remember she'd told my mom something about having to file even though I was paying taxes to Mexico, but I wouldn't have to pay anything to the US government unless I made the equivelant of over 90,000 USD. My mom has sent me the tax form she filed for me this last year so when I see it I'll have more information as to how they filed. Are you going to report your Mexican income on the I-864 form?

I talked to my mom (who filed for me) and she said it was OPTIONAL, and they decided to do it because there was a form for it and they wanted to get me back into the system. As soon as that info gets to me I'll let you know the name of the form in case you want to go that route too. But she said its not required, so it shouldn't be a problem for you if you haven't.

Are you sure about the forms needing to be signed? In the instructions it says: "Note: If you fail to return these forms (previously mentioned DS 230 and I 864) incomplete (not signed or notarized) Immigrant Visa Office will return them to you and your process will be delayed." But to me it doesn't make sense that they NOT be signed...

Finally, one more question: What did you put on the first page where it says Numerical limitation? I have no idea what they are referring to!

Hi everyone. I accidentally posted this is the general forum, but I was wondering what address everyone is using for their 230 (petitioner/USC address). Should everything still be the Mexico address, for me, the USC? Also, any recommendations on having my mom (co-sponsor) do the 864a, or the 864? I remember reading someone had a problem with the 864 for their parent and CDJ almost closed their case. thanks guys! hope everyone is well!

Filed 130 in person in Mexico City June 2010

130 approved next day

No case number until July 21

Sent Packet 3 July 21

Packet 3 approval date Aug 4

Oct. 4 Interview- Approved!

Ok, think I've figured out the 864/864A. I will just have my mom fill out a regular 864 and no 864a since she doesn't need her husband's income to meet poverty guidelines. Correct? Thanks!

I concur with the posting below -- I did sent the I-230 parts I and II (2nd part that has to be signed in front of consulate person unsigned, but have to print ANOTHER original copy to take with you to the interview. the I-864 has to be signed -- I had my mom fill out an I-864A (co-sponser) because I have lived in MX for 6 years -- I did fill income taxes but since our main home is in MX I was exempt for my reportable income actually came out as a negative number since all my income was exempt. AGAIN I printed another set of originals along with the income taxes I filed and that my mom filed to bring along to the interview. My husband mailed it overnight from MX to Juarez on June 11th and a letter was received today in the US with his appt. date for interview for Aug 4th.

From what I read about the police report - it says online that MX doesn't have one so don't ask for one, but when I called the $1.25 per minute phone number they told me that I should get that since it is available -- no antecedentes- So we are going to get one to take just in case.

Claireg had an appt on June 28th and Lia has one in the next few days so hopefully we will get some updates on the actual interview process.

Ok, think I've figured out the 864/864A. I will just have my mom fill out a regular 864 and no 864a since she doesn't need her husband's income to meet poverty guidelines. Correct? Thanks!

My understanding is that you as the sponsor fills out the I-864 and since you have no reportable income from the US from the last 3 years (like most of us) then you have to have a co-sponsor who fills out the I-864A --- that's what I did and I mailed it in and recieved a letter saying they received it and then a couple weeks later I received another letter with my husband's interview appt for Aug 4th -- so I'm guessing what we did was accepted.

Jilly and Danny, thanks for checking with your mom/sis. If you can send me the name of that form (when you get it), I would TRULY appreciate it. I had asked an accountant friend in the US and she told me as long as it's below the minimum (which it was), but then I heard a story about a girl who filed for K-1 and they asked her for a RFE for the 3 years of filed taxes and since she hadn't done them, she had to do all 3 years, wait for the IRS response, and then continue visa process. I don't want that to happen to me.

czmjacq, congrats on getting Packet 3 approved and your appointment date. I guess giving the US address helped to quickly find out about the interview. Claireg already posted her interview update on another post. I can't find it right now, but just look in the most recent pages. You should be able to find it. Hers sounded really easy.

Let's hope Lia79 posts too with a more detailed update about the city, hotels, transportation, medical, etc.

Jilly and Danny, where exactly is "numerical limitation" and in what form? Forgot to comment on that in the last post.

Ok I got the forms today. My mom filed a form 1040 and with it the form 2555-EZ "Foreign Earned Income Exclusion." My total income was 0, but I figure it won't hurt to have the papers to prove it. I only have one for 2009, since in 2008 I didn't work and before that I was a student. I hope its enough, too.

The numerical limitation is on the first page of the checklist from Packet 3. At the top of the first page it says:

Case Number: ________________________________

Preference Category: ________________________

Numerical Limitation: _______________________

Your Priority Date: _________________________

and well I have all the other information but I have no idea what the numerical limitation refers to and there wasn't anything like that in the letter they sent. I'm afraid if I leave it blank they won't like it and they send it back to me or something...

I have the form that I sent in and the only thing I filled in on that page was the case number -- I left everything else blank. We sent that with the rest of the packet 3 stuff on June 11 and I received a letter with the interview appt on July 2nd -- for an interview for Aug 4th. So should be OK to leave blank.
