Thank you, Nelly and Charlie!

That helps a lot. We are just finishing the DS-260 and will make our appointments. The hotel and flight recommendations are really helpful as well.

I recall reading that you can have the vaccinations done elsewhere within 3 months previous and bring along proof and that will reduce the cost of the medical exam. Do you know if that is true?

Thanks again,

Michael and Miriam

Hello!

My husband, a Mexican citizen, and I are looking to move back to my hometown of Portland in the next year or two, and I was hoping to get some advice from all of you on the DCF process.

I have scrolled through this forum a bit, but haven't found what I'm looking for yet. I am sorry if this is a repeat of something that has already been posted!

As we are JUST now starting the process, I understand that the first thing I need to do is fill out the petition I-130 and the G-325A form. But what I am unclear about is should I send the documents to the embassy field office address? Or should I bring them down there myself? And if I do so do I need an appointment? We do live in Mexico City, so it would not be that difficult to go down there, but it would mean taking a day off of work so I need to know if it is worth it.

When I called, the representative who I spoke with told me to just go down there and the guard would tell me what to do, but this person seemed to be in an office in the United States and didn't know specific information about the Mexico City embassy.

If anyone has advice I would really appreciate it!

Thank you!

Does anyone know if there is an appeal process for a denial?

I'm pretty furious right now.

My wife was denied because on my 2012 taxes, I only earned $18,000. We were living in Mexico at that time and that's all we needed, so I did the amount of remote work needed to earn what we needed... I was doing a "pretirement" as they say.

Now that we are moving to the US, I began a job in January earning $50,000 per year. I also have $250,000 in investments. The interviewer didn't even look at that information (pay stubs, investment account statements etc.). He denied her solely because I had low earning back in 2012 and he refused to even look at my current employment nor my not unsubstantial net worth.

He said we need a co-sponsor. I prefer not to ask a relative to be a co-sponsor - there is no real reason for it.

In the meantime I have to go back to the US to work and since she just had her tourist visa cancelled she no longer can enter the US, so she'll have to go to Mexico City to stay with her mother.

This all stinks. I never dreamed that someone in my good financial situation would be denied on financial grounds.

So, if there is an appeal process I'd like to go that route if I can. Any suggestions?

Hi, I was reading through the site and came to the conclusion that a DCF would be the easiest way to get my wife into the USA being that I am already in Mexico. Now I understand that I must have residency in Mexico for at least 6 months.

Now my question is: Has anyone filled a DCF with less than 6 months residency in Mexico?

I realize now looking back on this post that I am not exactly answering your question, as I have been in Mexico for over 6 months, but I am still available if you have any questions.

In fact, here's what I have so far:

On Monday, I turned in every for the I-130 to the embassy here in Mexico City. It was a big packet of info, based more or less on other cover letters I have seen in the forums. A few helpful tips to know:

----The office to turn it in is only open on Mondays and Thursdays from 9:00-1:00. The website will tell you different hours, as will people at the embassy if you call.

----You need to pay with a cashier's check, which I had a lot of trouble finding. The people I called at the embassy, and the people at the front gate, told me I could pay with check... they were wrong. I have some addresses for places near the embassy that will give you a cashier's check in US dollars. Let me know if you need them.

But the good new is..... WE WERE APPROVED!!! Yes, this is just the first step, but it feels good.

Let me know if you have other questions!

Hi, im new here so Im sorry if this is a repeat question...

My husband has about a year and a half left on his masters here in Mexico. We both live in Mexico with our baby, who has his crba and American passport. I have heard it can take a year for the IR (spouse visa) to get approved.. I also read that after you go through the process and you pick up your packet from DHL in Juarez that you cross the border and get a stamp.

My question is... after receiving his stamp, can we go back to Guadalajara to pack, sell stuff, and possibly wait a couple of months if necessary while he finishes his degree?

My goal was to plan all of this so it would be finished and approved by Dec 2015, his graduation date so we could relocate in January.. I know its a while from now but this process takes some time...

Also we want to apply for some engineering jobs in the US and I feel like we have a better chance if he already has his green card or at least the process has been started...

Thoughts?

thanks.

We haven't done the the interview yet, we were only approved for the I-130 so far. Now we are just waiting to hear from Juarez. They said it would be four to eight months...

As far as your other question about returning to Guadalajara after you have the stamp, that is what we are planning to do as well, more or less, since we want my husband to have his green card before looking for jobs as well. I have read other cases of this as well, so I am pretty sure it's true, but if someone else has other thoughts please let us know!

FM3- a side note for any newcomers to this thread. I was told I would need to have my FM3 for 6months in order to do DCF, but I had it for a month before we processed, and we were approved. We also got married 2 weeks before submitting the 130 which was not a problem!

This is the information I was looking for! Thank you!

HI,

Did you guys get your marriage certificate translated? I was browsing the Ciudad Juarez site, and it looks like it isn't necessary, and I believe I read in the previous 58 pages about people who did not send in translations..

http://photos.state.gov/libraries/ciudadjuarez/231771/PDFs/Packet4dec13.pdf

the info is on page 4 and 5.

Here is the info that would apply to coming back into Mexico for a short time after you have the visa stamp..

http://ciudadjuarez.usconsulate.gov/mobile/iv_steps7.html

We might stay in Juarez to physically pick up the visa, cross the border, have a lunch, then cross back.. At least then the visa is in our hands and not floating around in DHL system..
