Pnewton most people don't have vaccination records (we didn't nor did our other 2 couple friends) I was under the impression they give you most vaccines no matter what! And like other said, Mexico does not require te carta de no antecedentes etiher....good luck!

Thanks, everyone, for the advice! As for the vaccination card, my husband still can't find his original one and he went to the Seguro and they told hiim that as they don't have those on file anywhere, there's nothing they can do...What?! Seriously annoying. The info on the vaccines and medical clinic on the Consulate page says to bring it if you can, but if not, don't worry. Which, of course, doesn't really reassure us enough! My husband is going to try and call the two clinics directly and see if it's ok to not have the records. Do you know of anyone who has gone who didn't bring vaccination records?

Hi Ulises.

1) Talk with CZJMAC (?) about dual citizenship (she was the first and only in this forum to have the experience of applying with dual citizenship and she encountered a different situation than the rest of us...namely she had to be present at her spouse's interview, so make sure you go!)

2)We paid the UCSIS fee in front of the Embassy (I posted about this on this forum a while back). I pulled money out of the Santander ATM a few buildings down from the Embassy, then bought a cashier's check in front of the Embassy at a Casa de Cambio near Starbucks, and made a copy of it at a copy place a few stores down. I didn't want to travel with the money and wanted to turn it in myself. This seemed the best way to do that. I would recommend turning it in in person if you are worried about losing money as some people have had their packet lost in the mail! If you must send, then buy the Giro Bancario through your bank and make copies of everything you send!

3) Definitely bring/send marriage and birth certs (we took both long and short copy so they could choose), translate them yourself with the template on this website, and definitely send at least 3 recent bills in your name from here in Mexico (I also posted about what we brought..I will look for this post for you and repost it)

4) We did a cover letter, but they didn't seem to care...he ripped it off the packet and went through and pulled out the things he wanted. If you are sending by mail do one saying what is enclosed in you packet, if anythign it helps you feel more organized!

Best of luck! and stay on this forum as the good advice abounds ;-)

Hi, I thought that by clicking on "New Post" I would add a new post to this group, but apparently this is a single thread.

Anyway, my post was opened as a new thread in DCF General Discussion.

I reproduce here, and appeal to your kindness to get an answer.

Hello,

I am a US citizen that also has Mexican citizenship.

I will file this week on Mexico City Embassy office.

I called the office last week to ask how I should pay and they told me that either with a cashier check or with a Money Order.

I called my bank and they told me that did have cashier checks (actually I think they said "Giros bancarios") and that I had to buy them.

My bank is Santander in Guadalajara.

How you guys have paid and where did you get the check/money order?

I don't want to screw it up, as I will apply for my wife and 2 kids, so I don't want to lose my money.

Also, they only asked me for Marriage and Birth certificates to prove relationship, and something to prove that I live in Mexico.

Did you also bring a cover letter? They didn't mention such a requirement but I have seen it in many blogs.

Thanks in Advance,

Ulises

HI Arianak, thanks for your response. I am actually travelling to Mexico City as it seems the safest thing to do, even though it is a little more expensive I prefer to do so, so that they can check if I am missing something and not have to wait till they reply via mail. Besides where I am currently living mail service is very irregular, so I don't want to take the risk.

Also, as I am filing for my wife and my 2 kids, I would rather get a check from my bank (Santander) here at Guadalajara, cause withdrawing and then going to the "Casa de Cambio" seems very risky to me, specially at Mexico City :)

I just called again and they said that as long as the checks were in English, amount in dollars it would be ok.

I asked to what name the check must be posted and they said that putting only USCSI acronym would be ok.

Do you remember what you put in the checks? (USCIS, DHS/USCIS, or United States Citizenship and Immigration Services)?

Thanks again for your quick answer.

Hi Ulises,

The casa de cambio literally right across the street from Santander and the Embassy...it felt much safer to do it there instead of walk around/travel with checks, but it's up to you! Also note one user brought a check from her own bank and they didn't accept it (Our $355 cheque de caja from HSBC wasn't going to work for them http://www.visajourney.com/forums/topic/242117-dcf-mexico/page__st__30)

I don't remember exactly who the check goes to: USCIS maybe US Department of Homeland Security? Does anyone else know?

Maybe its on the CDJ consulate website? It's not on the 130 app....I only knew because they gave me a piece of paper with the info at the embassy.

Hi everyone! Sorry I've been so absent!

About the dual citizenship, I think it depends on whether you are mexican by birth or you obtained it later like Czmjaqc (naturalization).I am mexican by birth and did not have any problem, and did not have to go to the interview with my husband. I think Marisol also has dual nationality, but she petitioned for her son so she had to go to the interview anyways.

We are now in the US and have had trouble getting my husband's SSN. We waited about a month after the interview since we did not receive it, and went to the SS office. They told us we had to wait two more weeks (I don't know why), so we went two weeks later and apparently they didn't process in in Juarez, so the lady made a new application and said they had to verify it with DHS so it might take longer than the usual ten days. Today we went again and now they told us the case was still pending so they deleted that application and made a new one. Supposedly this time it does not have to go through DHS. Oh, the thing was that on my husband's passport, they had put both his last names and so on the first application the lady put them both, but the DHS had him only with his first last name and that's why it was still pending. Hope this helps someone!

Good luck to Pnewton and Grangkm on your interviews coming up soon!

I got the dual citizenship when President Carlos Salinas approved the dual citizenship law (if you are son of Mexican father and/or mother you are Mexican by birth), and I became Mexican in 1998. Anyway, I'll have to travel to the Consulate since I am filing for my 2 children too.

That is why I am hesitating if it would be a good idea to wait to be in Mexico (cause it would be $1260 dls approx $16,000 pesos), so that is quite an amount to be walking in the street even though it is only 1 block.

I'll try to figure out what I can do in this respect.

Now another question is, are they very picky on the photos? I just had them today, the document I-130 says 2x2 inchces and that from chin to hair it should measure 1 inch. Did any of you have any issue with the photos?

Hello Marisol, so do you remember how you paid (or how you are going to pay for your husband), and what was the check/money order directed to? You are filing in Monterrey, but the payment must be similar right?

I am also going tomorrow to file my wife's and children's I-130 at USCIS in Mexico city.

Hey, Marisol! We didn't take any proof except our marriage certificate and some credit card bills from both of us showing the same address.

Ulises, I paid cash in Monterrey so I don't know, but if you check Marisol's attachment in the first pages of this thread, it says the money order / cashier check has to be made out to DHS U.S. Citizenship and Immigration Services.

Good luck to both of you tomorrow!

Ulises - As far as dual citizenship - you just need to be present at the interview to let the consular agent know in person that you did not renounce your American citizenship when you became a Mexican citizen (or at least that was what we were told -AFTER my husband went to his FIRST interview).

You also need to send a copy of your MX naturalization and electric or telephone bills from 3 months back to prove you are living in MX -

I had orinally sent my paperwork in and they called me back and said I needed to send a copy of my FM3 or FM2 and I explained I was naturalized, so they said to send a copy of the naturalization.

Sorry I can't help on the payment info -- I lived in Cozumel and there was NO PLACE that would/could or even knew what was a US certified check or money order so I ended up getting one issued from my bank in the US and having someone bring it down to me.

I mailed everything with an overnight MX carrier and requested a signature upon delivery and we sent things at 2 different times and never had any trouble with it arriving there in Mexico City.

Hello Ulises..

I paid for my son I-130 $355 dlls (On July 8th,2010).. but yesterday I was surprised the fee went up !!.. now is $420 dlls .

In monterrey we can pay in cash (pesos or dollars) or VISA. We only had $355 dlls..and I asked if we can pay the rest on pesos, but we couldnt.. all has to be in pesos or all in dollars. So we paid all in pesos.. ($5460 pesos).

But I think In Mexico Consulate dont accept cash.. Im not sure.

About the photos.. they asked for one of my husband and one of me. They werent picky about them.

Good Luck !

Hi guys,

I'll be driving to CJ on January 6th with hubby for our first visa interview. For those of you who drove, can you give me directions on how to get to the consulate. I would hate to get lost in CJ! I'm coming from Chihuahua City by the way. Thank you!
