Andi and Marisol- Don't forget that when CDJ received my Packet 3 they sent a letter saying it would be 2-3 months until I could even GET an interview date. When I inquired they said the same thing, and then I got an appointment letter (at my US address of course and the interview date was only like 10(?) weeks after packet 3 was received. So while I'm a fan of not getting my hopes up with all this stuff, be sure to keep checking!

Oh, I already made the inquiry, I'm just not letting my hopes up, since he might not have the interview soon.

Just a quick note--we finally got our letter of approval today from the Mty Consulate!! Horray! Well, email of approval, I suppose. We filed the I-130 on Sept 2nd, so it's been exactly three weeks for the approval letter. But we're happy to at least have one step behind us. So, now it's time to wait for the info from CDJ, right?

Good luck to everyone else!!

Well the good news is that it only took 6 business days to get a reply from my email inquiry as to what needed to be done to continue my husband's VISA process... the bad news is I still don't have an answer -- this is all I received which is pretty much what the letter said.

Dear Ms. In order to continue with your husband’s visa process you need to accompany him for a new Interview. The Consular Officer needs to speak to you personally. Please contact our call center to request a new appointment to the following telephone numbers.

So, I sent another email inquiry advising of my citizenship issue (I never did nor intended to give up my American Citizenship when I aquired my Naturalized MX Citizenship) as well as asking if that was the issue or if there was more....

If I don't get a more informed response I guess I'll send a certified letter to the guy in charge there right now -- I think his name is Haas.

How frustrating....

Congrats!! Yes, you should get the same letter from CJ. I got one at my US address in just a couple of weeks, but it took over a month to get to Cozumel. You shouldn't have such a big delay since you are closer to CJ and not on an island...

Funny thing -- my husband's VISA appt. letter got to Cozumel the day he got BACK from his appt.

Hi La gringa !

I agree with you... instructions of packet 3 are sooo confusing !

about your questions:

1) They say not to send any documents.. I think you just send: Checklist signed, I-864 & DS230..and all documents should be available at the time of the interview

4) I dont think you need Carta de Antecedentes no Penales.. Mexico is in the list of countries of "not available police certificate"..look in page 9 of the packet 3 instructions. It says " Do not attempt to obtain Police Certificate of any of the following countries.."

7) In my personal opinion I dont Think the "march" at 18 counts as military service

All other questions about I-864 I cant answer.. because this time I just apply for my son and I didnt need to file I-864 for him. But hope someone respond the questions.. because I will need to file one for my husband .

Good Luck !

I will call today to Cd Juarez Consulate to see if they already have an appointment date for my son.. or if I need to send any additional documentation. I sent packet 3 on August 3rd..so I think its time to call.

Hi, can you tell me why you dont need a I-864 for son.

Hello Cronometr..

In the instructions of I-864 says:

Are There Exceptions to Who Needs This Form?

The following types of intending immigrants do not need to file this form:

"Any intending immigrant who will, upon admission, acquireU.S. citizenship under section 320 of the Immigration andNationality Act, as amended by the Child Citizenship Act of 2000 (CCA);"

So my son is exempt to file the form.

The instructions also say:

"NOTE: If you qualify for one of the exemptions listed above, submit Form I-864W, Intending Immigrant's I-864 Exemption, instead of Form I-864."

So I sent I-864W.

Are you filing for your son or daugther?

Hi, can you tell me why you dont need a I-864 for son.

Hi, everyone!

Today I got a response from CDJ informing me that my husband has his appointment on Oct 21, 8 weeks after I sent packet 3!

Of course I don't know the time because all of that is in the letter they sent me on Sept 13 which I have not received. What happens if I don't receive the letter? Does anybody know?

Ariana, good luck on your trip and keep us posted!

Pnewton, congrats! Get packet 3 ready so you can send it as soon as you get your case number!

Hi again, everyone--

Well, I decided that tonight is the night I'm going to really tackle getting pack 3 ready, as it's been on top of my to-do list since we found out we were approved. I'm also motivated by you girls who are further along in the process and almost there--I can't wait to just have my husband here with me! I actually moved back to the US last week, so I'm going to be coordinating what I can from here (which I feel like will be easier for some things) and then getting my husband to chase around for things back in Mexico.

But I already have some questions regarding pack 3, and if anyone could help me, I'd very much appreciate it! I'm looking pg. 3 from the packet that I printed off the CDJ website.

1. Mexican passport for my husband--does he make photocopies of each page, plus his tourist visa card and send that? And then I imagine he'd bring the passport/tourist visa with him to the interview?

2. Original and photocophy of his birth certificate--no translation if in Spanish, right?

3. Original and photocopy of our marriage certificate--do we need an English translation? I wish this were clearer.

4. To be on the safe side, I'll have him get a carta de no antecedentes...

5. His photos--He'll take the instructions with him to get them done, but I feel like I remember someone talking about how they need to be "glossy" instead of "matte", but I don't see it mentioned here. Does anyone know?

6. I-797 Receipt--is this the little receipt we got for paying the $350 at the Mty Consulate? I can ask my husband to check--he has all of that paperwork down there.

7. Proof of my citizenship--Do I send photocopies of either my birth certificate or passport? And if I choose passport, is it necessary to do all of the pages?

8. Fee receipt from any Banamex branch...Is this referring to the fee we already made for the 1-130 or a fee we'll make in CDJ?

9. Two DS-156/OF-156--This can be prepared online, but does it matter which country we select from the list? When I open the NIV appt. page, I can't find Mexico on the list. What?! I assume it's the same everywhere, but I thought it was weird that MX wasn't there...or maybe I just couldn't find it!

10. Visa Appt Letter--Haven't received it yet. We received the email I-130 approval Sept. 23rd, so it hasn't even been a week yet. When do you think I can email them and ask for the case number (and also let them know to send things to my US address now, too)?

11. Proof of Economic Slovency--So, I fill out the I-864 and my parents the 864a? And also, will it be sticky that I did work back in Mty, but didn't earn enough to file for taxes in the US? Haha, and to complicate things, I'm back in the US now, am substitute teaching but still don't have a permanent job? I'll be starting to look more next week, but there's so much to do in the meanwhile!

Ok, those are a ton of questions...I have a few more regarding the documentation we should send to prove our relationship, but I'll put those in another email! I can only tackle so much at once!

Thanks so much for your help, everyone!! And Ariana, are you guys almost about to leave for CDJ? We'll all send good thoughts your way!!

1. Mexican passport for my husband--does he make photocopies of each page, plus his tourist visa card and send that? And then I imagine he'd bring the passport/tourist visa with him to the interview? Is this on the list of things that you need to have available but NOT mail in, or is this the list of things they want you to mail? If the latter, then I would make a copy of the front PP and the last VISA page only.

2. Original and photocophy of his birth certificate--no translation if in Spanish, right?

3. Original and photocopy of our marriage certificate--do we need an English translation? I wish this were clearer. I had an English translation done for all of our stuff but later I read somewhere(who knows now) that translations are needed ONLY if it is in the language other than English OR the Language of the COUNTRY you are filing which would be Spanish.. I'll look and see if I can't find where I read that.

4. To be on the safe side, I'll have him get a carta de no antecedentes... I did the same...

5. His photos--He'll take the instructions with him to get them done, but I feel like I remember someone talking about how they need to be "glossy" instead of "matte", but I don't see it mentioned here. Does anyone know? It does say glossy on the photo info -- I think it's the first page I printed from the CDJ forms that numbers the things you need to have ready for the interview.

6. I-797 Receipt--is this the little receipt we got for paying the $350 at the Mty Consulate? I can ask my husband to check--he has all of that paperwork down there. Not sure what that is...

7. Proof of my citizenship--Do I send photocopies of either my birth certificate or passport? And if I choose passport, is it necessary to do all of the pages? I sent a copy of my birth certificate.

I assume it's the same everywhere, but I thought it was weird that MX wasn't there...or maybe I just couldn't find it!

This doesn't ring a bell??

10. Visa Appt Letter--Haven't received it yet. We received the email I-130 approval Sept. 23rd, so it hasn't even been a week yet. When do you think I can email them and ask for the case number (and also let them know to send things to my US address now, too)? I read that if you don't have it you can go to the information window at the consulate to pick one up --- so you would have to do this when you arrive to CDJ since you need it to take to the medical clinic. I would guess it would be 2-3 weeks before they had a case number for you -- if I were you I would go ahead and email them with YOUR change of address -- I got all the paperwork here in the states like 3 weeks before it arrived in Mexico.

Your current employment isn't that important since they are requiring you to have a co-sponsor -- I was a sub too when I moved back to the US in April but I had a signed contract for August for the school year -- they never asked for any of that but I sent it anyway.

Ok, those are a ton of questions...I have a few more regarding the documentation we should send to prove our relationship, but I'll put those in another email! I can only tackle so much at once!

Just take your time and once you have a completed packet I would make a copy of it all to keep just in case...

Good Luck!!

Thank you for the quick response, czmjacq! I just realied that the packet that I printed off from the CDJ website was under the K1/K3 visa section, so I printed out the same one! I found the right one that explains why some of the stuff you had mentioned czmjacq was different from what I saw (like the glossy pics) was different from what I saw...Silly me, I'm sorry!

I did start with the tax forms, and I got through putting my parents' info well enough it did leave with more questions. If anyone knows the answer, please let me know:

1. As I said before, I had income in Mty, but it wasn't enough to file taxes for this year. So, I wasn't unemployed, but I'm kinda unemployed now--just doing random subbing until I find something stable. So, what do I put for my "current individual annual income" (Part 6, 23)? Do I put "0 / unemployed" and explain in a letter my current situation? I'll get some bank statements on my savings, but I'm not sure what to do about this income situation.

2. My parents file jointly, but the income of either one will be enough to cover the requirement. Should I just choose one of them, do a I-864 for that one and then do a I-864a for the other? Or an I-864 for both/I-864a for both? I'm a litle confused.

Thanks, everyone and sorry for the confusion from my previous post!
