We applied for N-400, got NOA and got fingerprint done and while we are waiting for interview notice to come

today got some standard letter from USCIS saying our case required additonal document mention below for the marriage based case

where they say 1) past three years of IT return copies or form 1722 required 2) prof of resi required or mortgage/renet paymet required.

They also mention that this is standard general letter and dont send any docs by mail but bring it in interview with this original notice letter.

Now I already submitted last two year tax transcripts and copy of our joint signed apt lease agreement for last 2-3 years when I filed n-400, so I am wondering why I end up getting this letter ? Is this standard practise ?

Or is it becasue I submitted last 2 yrs tax return trascripts and NOT 3 yrs ?? and I submitted joint lease agreement but not proof of rent ??

Any experiences ??

Thanks

Seem to be fussy about three years of tax returns, we brought in four, wife's IO said only three and only federal, what the heck, with also had state. Copies of our drivers' license were also sent in, course each of ours were in our own names, but the address was exactly the same. One bit of evidence they didn't want to see, we didn't send it in, but brought it in was a years supply of junk mail showing a common address for both of us, threw that in the trash when we got home. You want evidence, we got evidence was our attitude. How about a check made out from our joint account for 675 bucks made out to the USCIS. I filled out that box as a 3rd party in her N-400 and signed it that I filled it out, so her application had both of our names on it.

Our huge property tax bill with both of our names on it stamped paid by the city, but her idiot IO said that was 2007 and wouldn't accept it even though it was marked paid in January of 2008, her interview was in July of 2008, but her IO didn't seem to have problems that our latest tax returns were and are always dated for the previous year. Hope you get an intelligent IO, not easy to deal with an idiot.

Jointly owned property was shown, home, vehicles, our dog where you get a legal document, not easy to show joint ownership on a toaster, but if you are going through a divorce, joint ownership on every tiny bit of stuff you have is assumed. What I really considered positive proof was our home, auto, and heath insurance policies, you just can't randomly add names to those policies. Would be nice if you could, could cover all of our relatives in our family policy and even friends and really spread out the premium payments. Those were taken lightly according to my wife at her interview. Then a friend was rejected with all that but lack of a utility bill. Since the only local office was our electrical company, was easy to go there and add my wife's name, calling those 800 numbers is crazy, put on hold for three hours and bounced around. So wife just had the June 2008 bill in her packet that she handed over when asked. That is crazy, but when dealing with crazy, easier to please them than to argue. She was never asked for proof of payment of any of our bills and we didn't bring that in.

It's really crazy when you compare the I-751 with the N-400, we sent in four notarized letters from friends that we were living together that was accepted without an interview, could have sent in dozens if they wanted them. I could have walked in with my wife and simply have taken an oath that we were living together and that should suffice. As a comparative example, could be called into a court of law and under oath, stated I saw that guy kill a person, and on just that, they would hang that guy. But not with the USCIS, my word is worthless, you are presumed guilty of fraud until you prove yourself innocent. Could have even brought in a dozen witnesses to state we were living together, but they would rather see a utility bill with both our names on it.

Can only wonder what idiot thought up this system, but hey, you have to do it. Should at least get two points for filling out all those applications and not being quiet and just bringing your spouse here. And why did I have to prove my USC again, plus those divorce papers, marriage certificate, we already been through all that before for that very long drawn out AOS! Must have thought my wife got her green card out of a Cracker Jack box, and don't they even know it was they that issued that card? Since we had to update all of our proof for that extended delay in processing the I-751, they got the same stuff again for USC.

Makes a person wonder if they should just wait another couple of years, but severing that relationship with the USCIS was very tempting, and a lot of extra work. Wife said the important new stuff, the civics and English test took less than a minute.

Yes, a number of people seem to get this 'documents' letter. I don't understand what their criteria are as we didn't get one and just submitted the basics as listed. It isn't anything to worry about, though, so don't worry. :) Regardless, I brought extra documents to prove the validity of our marriage (I am not on the deed or mortgage either) but they didn't bother to look at anything additional I brought.

So, just bring what is requested and anything extra that you think helps to show you are still living together in the same house as husband and wife with you to the interview. You should be receiving your interview notice very soon. Don't be surprised if they don't even look at the extra things you brought with you either.

Good luck on the interview.

Thanks all for responses. Funny they still mention that bring form "1722" from IRS which seems depricated a while ago .....
