MIL visa application

The best way is still the tourist visa. If she is single, then she will have to show some permanent ties with Ukraine before they will issue a visitor visa. You should write a letter to the US embassy along with an invitation letter to MIL. In most cases its pretty simple but the sticky part is showing that MIL has a compelling reason to return to Ukraine.

We haven't done this because my wife doesn't want our home disrupted by her mother.

I never really thought about her coming to America as an escape opportunity from her mother, but they have issues.

She didn't have any trouble getting the visa. She had previous trips to Finland and Germany. She is listed as primary resident for her apartment (she sort of owns it but it isn't privatized). She doesn't have any sort of steady job that would be worth going back to if she wanted to stay.

This does seem to make a difference. Vika's BFF got her mom a visa (and mom is still here), but first took her Western Europe on a Schengen visa. The Schengen approval with a timely return to Ukraine seemed to influence the consular officer at our embassy.

Have any of you managed to bring your MIL's to the states for a visit? If Yes I would like to know what route you took to accomplish this.

I'd recommend flying, the Greenland/Iceland route seems the best choice.

Sorry the bases have pretty much been covered already. Couldn't resist.

Just a side note, here.. much has been made of the appearance of the female FSU wives, what do the mother-in-laws look like?

Like a typical old Russian woman without much money. I do think Russian women don't age so gracefully unless they have the funds for Botox and cosmetic surgery and nice clothes. I hear from my wife that even women in their 30s use Botox. I was shocked at that.

My MIL is not wealthy...in fact she still lives in what my wife calls "the suburbs" but we Americans would call the "boondocks." She's had a hard factory life so she looks appropriately old but her spirit is strong...and she seems to truly care about me.

The amount of smokers is a big factor in aging. Russia has the most smokers per population out of all the Western countries. Also I think there's a completely different attitude once women get older--in the FSU, once your kids are old and grown, you still dedicate your life to your family. You see your time as being "over." Whereas in the US, once your kids are old and grown, it's your time for yourself.

You can look just fine without botox and plastic surgery, but remember that most women who are in their 50s, 60s, 70s didn't exactly have lives of leisure and access in their youth to all sorts of creams and sunscreens and what have you.

I've actually noticed it all over Europe though, that young Europeans win in beauty, but come middle age American women tend to look younger and take care of themselves better, unless they're the sort who never did and just eat AMERICAN GAMBOURGERS all day.

I have to say my MIL is HOT...and divorced. If the wife and I ever split ways, I would seriously contemplate going back for the MIL.

* I almost forgot to add...my MIL cooks twice as good as my wife...and more often, not to mention she keeps a spotless house and dresses like a high priced hooker. :)

"I want to take this opportunity to mention how thankful I am for an Obama re-election. The choice was clear. We cannot live in a country that treats homosexuals and women as second class citizens. Homosexuals deserve all of the rights and benefits of marriage that heterosexuals receive. Women deserve to be treated with respect and their salaries should not depend on their gender, but their quality of work. I am also thankful that the great, progressive state of California once again voted for the correct President. America is moving forward, and the direction is a positive one."

So basically you just got the younger model?

Yes and no.... They look like sisters, and when I saw pics of the mom when she was my wifes age they could have almost passed as twins. The MIL is about a year older than me.

The wife is like 5'7" and 116 lbs with red/blonde hair, the mom is like an inch shorter and maybe 110 lbs wet out of the shower. The wife was dressing western style before I met her (not a plus in my book), and the mom dresses with those over the knee hooker boots and mini skirts (big plus in my book).

The wife speaks fluent English...she did before I met her, and the mom speaks hardly any English at all (another BIG PLUS in my book).

My wife is a so so dancer, the MIL dances like she's a pro...and in a very naughty way.

The wife could care less if I was dying if it came down to me or her missing "Sex in the City". The MIL makes sure I always have a beer in my hand along with the remote.

The wife has that independent thing going for her...and she shows it, and the MIL...has that look in her eye like she would screw your brains out and be ready for more afterwards.

...sounds like you wish you married your MIL.

I do admit I have my doubts sometimes....

Next to scoring with a super hot virgin Nun still in the Convent and wearing her habit (at the top of my list), a hot mom - daughter threesome was a close second...
