Nickelback performed (a lyrically sanitized version of) "Burn It To The Ground," while Avril sang "Girlfriend" and something else that's escaping my memory. Another band, Hedley (I think?), also performed, but I don't know them or their music at all.

Pauley-Thanks for the update about what Nickelback and Avril sang....Lol..looks like I didn't miss much there at all...Glad that I went to sleep early instead

Why would she sing girlfriend?? I mean this is the freaking Olympics, she couldn't write an original song to go with the event??? I mean come on... girlfriend????

Sprailenes-I agree, what does "girlfriend" have anything to do with the olympics? Definitely needed something more suited to the occasion...

Honestly, I felt that the closing ceremony was pretty good and then they got to the music, they could have done better...

Some of the music was pretty darned depressing, such as, Simple Plan's ''Your Love is a Lie.'' I mean, the Olympics is about bringing the world together...I just didn't think most of the music was appropriate. Avril and Simple Plan both sung songs about bad relationships.

I went from being a proud Canadian, to embarrassed.

Bern-I agree, that songs about bad relationships have nothing to do with the olympics. Definitely needed something more suited to the occasion/theme there. Lol...I guess some singers can't write songs? Guess they don't know any better.....

I felt very proud as a Canadian AND an American during the Olympics.

I now feel slight depression that it's all over.

And I'm COMPLETELY MAD at myself for not going up to Vancouver for any events.... and I only live 3 1/2 hours away from Vancouver!!!!!!!!!!!!

What was I thinking??????????????????

Raymaga-Likewise, I feel the same way too...A proud Canadian and American during the olympics (lol.and couldn't decide who to cheer for either).

Nevertheless, the important thing is that all the participants has fun and showed good sportsmanship and team spirit and national pride.

Sigh..back to our regularly scheduled programming....Sure is depressing, indeed....I'll never look at NBC the same way again......

Maybe the unaffordable hotel prices? Hubby drove from Seattle and camped out in a sleeping bag on my bedroom floor (I live with my parents and have a twin bed) over the weekend so we can go to the festivities. Unfortunately no sex. :-( but still well worth it. :-)

Reven-Lol..Glad you got to go to the festivities, nevertheless. And with baby in tow too! Lol about the sleeping arangements. I'm sure your baby will thank you later for that later on though........

Russia had a symphony, opera, choir, ballet to showcase... we had GIANT INFLATABLE BEAVERS!

We could have used our stage time to break some of the lame stereotypes, but instead we amplified them into what could have been props for the Macy's thanksgiving parade. It was funny though, I'll give them that.

Sprailenes-I must confess..That was the best part of the closing ceremonies! The giant inflatables! Lol..Felt like some sort of weird dream sequence or something....I swear...It sure did feel like some sort of "Canada fantasy-land" or something! I liked it, humour and all! Lol..Definitely someone should save those floats for the "Hudson's Bay Boxing Day Parade!".........

I think Nickelback was the best of all the music...oh, besides Alanis Morrisette. XD
Yes, I'd forgotten Alanis played as well. I did not recognize the song she was singing, but then it was harder to hear her; NBC had people on the stadium floor talking to various athletes while she was singing.

Bern and Pauley- What? Alanis Morisette was there too? Sigh..Too bad I missed her (yes, I'm a fan of Alanis too)....Oh well...

By the way, what was she singing? As well, as that annoying Bieber kid there too?

I watched a bit of the closing ceremonies from work-- Avril was pathetic!! Almost looked like she was going to fall asleep singing!! Love the beavers, lol

Canadians Visiting the USA while undergoing the visa process, my free advice:

1) Always tell the TRUTH. never lie to the POE officer

2) Be confident in ur replies

3) keep ur response short and to the point, don't tell ur life story!!

4) look the POE officer in the eye when speaking to them. They are looking for people lieing and have been trained to find them!

5) Pack light! No job resumes with you

6) Bring ties to Canada (letter from employer when ur expected back at work, lease, etc etc)

7) Always be polite, being rude isn't going to get ya anywhere, and could make things worse!!

8) Have a plan in case u do get denied (be polite) It wont harm ur visa application if ur denied, that is if ur polite and didn't lie! Refer to #1

Alanis Morissette performed Wunderkind, and in my earlier post I meant to say the music was inappropriate. Not appropriate. :bonk:

Bern-Thanks for the update about what Alanis sang....Lol..looks like I didn't miss much there at all...Glad that I went to sleep early instead....

Lol..Inappropriate, Not Appropriate....Whatever.....Not suited to the occasion...;)

They definitely needed something better here...

Sigh..Whatever happened to an olympic song like, "Power of a Dream" (Celine Dion), and "Reach" (Gloria Estafan..sp?)...Now those are songs to remember an olympic event by!
