Renewing Passport in Philippines

My husband's passport expires in October 2010. We are going to Philippines in a few months. Can my husband renew his passport over there and if so does anyone know if they offer expedited services to get the passport fast for Balikbayans? (Like getting the passport in a day or so...) or is he better off just renewing it here at the Philippine consulate general in new york?

Looks like if you mail it in from the U.S. it can take 6 weeks

He can do it in the PI....it will take about 2 weeks (at least that is what it took my wife...but there was an expedited service for like 250 pesos more) Also, make an appointment online so you dont have to wait for a long time in line. http://dfa.gov.ph/main/index.php/renewal-of-passport

If he does it in the US he needs to personally go to the consulate because of the new machine readable passports.

it's still ok to use if expiration is oct/10 yet.

yes, there is what is called a "rush" service for a fee in PI, and very convenient because he will just need to go in for the updating of his personal info (no need to be in the long lines)

it's cheaper too if done in the Phils.
